Match Preview

Pirates near full strength Bristol Rovers manager Paul Buckle has no new injury worries for the visit of Port Vale. Adam Virgo (knee) and goalkeeper Wayne Brown (ankle) remain long-term absentees and although Dan Woodards was a doubt for the defeat at Burton, the former MK Dons defender played 90 minutes and is expected to continue. Leicester loanee Oliver Norburn's spell at the Memorial Stadium is up, but manager Paul Buckle is hopeful he can extend the midfielder`s stay. With Port Vale smarting from their 4-0 reverse at the hands of Morecambe, Buckle told the club's official website: "They have an experienced manager, and he will want a reaction. We are hurting as well, we don`t like losing games. "The most frustrating part for us is that we are very, very close to putting a good run together. "We have to concentrate for the 90 minutes and clear our lines." Port Vale will be without Andrew Little, while Marc Richards and Rob Taylor are doubts. Little, on loan from Scottish champions Rangers, suffered a knee injury during the 4-0 home defeat to Morecambe on Saturday. Manager Micky Adams admits it is unlikely the Northern Ireland international will play for the club again before his loan expires in January. "Little is out and will be out for the foreseeable future. As of yet we have not had it scanned but the prognosis is not good. He will be going back up to Rangers," Adams told the club`s official website. "I think it will be touch and go if he gets back before his loan ends, which is disappointing." Striker Richards (ankle) and winger Taylor (thigh) are both nursing knocks from the weekend. The pair trained on Monday but Adams must wait to see if they suffer any adverse reaction. Elsewhere, Ryan Burge (knee), Lee Collins (groin) and Lewis Haldane (broken leg) continue to recover from injury.

Match Report

Vale make Pirates walk the plank Sean Rigg scored against his former club as Port Vale cruised to an emphatic 3-0 win at Bristol Rovers. Marc Richards turned on to a Tom Pope pass inside the box to fire the visitors ahead with a low drive after 19 minutes. Doug Loft doubled the advantage after 37 minutes when his 25-yard shot took a wicked deflection to send the ball looping over goalkeeper Scott Bevan's despairing dive. Rigg saved the best goal until last, lashing an unstoppable 25-yard shot past Bevan with five minutes remaining. Rovers were booed off at the interval having only sprung to life in the final five minutes of the half when Scott Rendell had a shot blocked and Vale goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson saved from Danny Woodards and Lee Brown. It did not get any better for under-fire boss Paul Buckle as chants of "what a load of rubbish" rang around the Memorial Stadium after Rigg's goal. For Vale boss Micky Adams it was the perfect response to his team's heavy 4-0 home defeat by Morecambe on Saturday.
