Carayol blow for Rovers Bristol Rovers will be without forward Mustapha Carayol for their Boxing Day clash with Plymouth. Carayol picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during the heavy defeat to Gillingham last time out, incurring a one-game suspension. Defender Cian Bolger is also suspended for the visit of the Pilgrims after seeing red in the 4-1 humiliation at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday. Bolger serves his one-match ban against the Gills. Experienced centre-back Adam Virgo has been ruled out for the season with knee ligament damage, while midfielder Wayne Brown (ankle) could also be unavailable for the rest of the term. Meanwhile, experienced forward Scott McGleish remains a doubt with an ankle problem, leaving striking duties to young frontman Eliot Richards and Chris Zebroski. Rovers hope to have defender Byron Anthony available after he suffered concussion during the loss to Gillingham. Plymouth's defensive reshuffling will continue. The Pilgrims welcome full-back Paul Bignot and centre-half Onismor Bhasera back after bans, but Argyle will be missing Darren Purse. Purse, a recent acquisition from Millwall, was sent off late on in the 1-1 draw with Hereford and starts a three-match suspension. Ladjie Soukouna could come back into the heart of Plymouth's defence in Purse's absence, while Bignot will challenge Durrell Berry and Robbie Williams for a full-back slot. Curtis Nelson, another possible replacement for Purse, has been ruled out through injury while captain Simon Walton is a doubt with a hamstring problem. Plymouth are unbeaten in three npower League Two matches - their best run of form this season.

Rovers Buckle under Plymouth pressure Ashley Hemmings struck an injury-time winner for Plymouth as the Pilgrims came from two goals down at half-time to beat Bristol Rovers 3-2 at the Memorial Stadium, heaping pressure on home boss Paul Buckle. Rovers striker Matt Harrold sidefooted home a 30th-minute penalty after being brought down by Onismor Bhasera, and the forward doubled the advantage two minutes later with a fine shot on the turn after Joe Anyinsah's break and cross. But Warren Feeney reduced the deficit for Plymouth on 52 minutes, pouncing to net from close range after Nick Chadwick flicked a corner towards goal, and Chadwick levelled on 79 minutes by slotting a low left-footed shot past Scott Bevan. Hemmings ran unchallenged through the middle to shoot the winner with seconds remaining to cue a chorus of displeasure from Rovers fans towards their manager. Buckle's men could have been three goals to the good at the interval but for a brilliant diving save by Jake Cole to palm Andy Dorman's 27th-minute header onto the crossbar. But Argyle dominated the second half and would have scored more but for two brilliant Bevan saves.
