Match Preview

Sawyer missing for Pirates Bristol Rovers will be without Gary Sawyer for the clash with Bournemouth. The left-back has missed the Pirates' last two matches - against Peterborough and Yeovil - through suspension after receiving 10 yellow cards this term. But, with his return beckoning, Sawyer has sustained a knock in training and will not be considered for selection. Otherwise, caretaker boss Stuart Campbell has no fresh injury or suspension concerns. That means Campbell is likely to pick an unchanged starting XI after Rovers secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Yeovil on Saturday. The Pirates remain in the relegation zone but are just one point adrift of safety. Bournemouth manager Lee Bradbury will again be without Michael Symes. The eight-goal striker is back in training, but his abductor muscle has still not healed sufficiently for him to return. Bradbury, though, saw his striking options boosted during Friday's dramatic 3-3 draw with Peterborough after Steve Lovell made his first appearance of the season as a second-half substitute following an ankle injury. Lovell may again have to settle for a place on the bench, but the same cannot be said for player-assistant manager Steve Fletcher, who netted after coming off as a substitute against Posh. The Cherries have faltered lately, having not won in their last five games, but will be hoping to further cement their position in the npower League One play-off places by overcoming the Pirates.

Match Report

Pirates put Cherries to the sword Jeff Hughes slotted home a first-half penalty as Bristol Rovers continued their revival at the bottom of League One with a 1-0 win over promotion-chasing Bournemouth. Adam Smith was penalised for tripping Gavin Williams and Hughes made no mistake in the 33rd minute, sending goalkeeper Shawn Jalal the wrong way from the spot. It dealt another blow to Bournemouth's promotion hopes and sees the Pirates climb out of the bottom four at Dagenham & Redbridge`s expense. The Cherries could find no way past inspired Rovers goalkeeper Conrad Logan at the end of some penetrating approach play. Chris Lines hit the crossbar for Rovers with a superb 30-yard free kick after 63 minutes before the home side had to withstand a late Bournemouth surge. Danny Hollands had a second-half shot cleared off the line by Rovers defender James Tunnicliffe, while Danny Ings and Anton Robinson shot inches wide for the visitors. Rovers are threatening to pull off a great escape under player-manager Stuart Campbell, who substituted himself after 54 minutes and spent the rest of the game frantically urging his side on from the dugout.
