Match Report

For the second time in three days, Steve Brooker produced a late get-out-of-jail goal for Bristol City.

It brought them three points at Blackpool at the weekend and a header here gave the Championship side a lucky place in the second round of the Carling Cup.

For long spells they were second best to their League One opponents and were behind for more than half an hour.

Finally they were rescued by a header by their captain Louis Carey, who then provided an aerial ball for Brooker's 85th minute winner.

Eager from the start and firm in the tackle, newly-promoted Posh carried the game to Bristol and were in complete control of the first half.

They went ahead on 17 minutes with a ten-yard shot from George Boyd after home captain Lee Johnson had given the ball away in midfield.

The swiftness of the break and the finish would have delighted Sir Alex Ferguson and it certainly pleased his son Darren, Peterborough's manager.

He was far less pleased though in the second half when he was sent to the stand after a complaint to the referee Paul Taylor from the fourth official.

Before Posh's goal there had been warnings for the home side with Boyd and Charlie Lee firing in shots on target.

After the goal, Argentinian Sergio Torres set up a long shot from Lee which brought keeper Chris Weale to his knees.

City were neither as accurate nor menacing but took a bad blow midway through the half when teenager Christian Ribeiro was stretchered off with damaged ligaments to his left knee.

It was a non-contact injury as his studs caught in the turf on the byline.

Ten minutes were added to the half as the young defender - who was making his senior debut - was taken to hospital.

City had a more urgent approach in the second half and it was a free-kick from full-back Jamie McAllister which finally opened up the League One side.
