Crofts blow for Brighton Brighton will be without midfielder Andrew Crofts for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday. The Wales international suffered a muscular injury during the 3-1 win at Burnley a fortnight ago and is not expected back until next weekend at the earliest. Former Albion skipper Dean Hammond rejoined the club on loan from Southampton on transfer deadline day so he could step straight into the midfield. Fellow new signings David Lopez and Stephen Dobbie are also in contention to make their debuts. Winger Kazenga LuaLua should be in the squad despite having a metal plate removed from his ankle during the international break but midfielder Vicente is still out with a tendon problem and striker Will Hoskins is recovering from a foot injury. Sheffield Wednesday's new loan signing Jay Bothroyd hopes to be included in the squad. The QPR striker joined the Owls until January at the end of last month but did not feature in the defeat at Crystal Palace last time out. Another new signing, defender Martin Taylor, was an unused substitute at Palace after joining on a permanent basis from Watford on the same day as Bothroyd and he too could make his debut. Central defender Anthony Gardner has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury, including the defeat at former club Palace, and could return to contention, while a third recent signing, midfielder Paul Corry, is pushing for his first appearance. Irishman Corry, signed from University College Dublin for an undisclosed fee, was an unused substitute at Palace. Nic Pecnik and fellow striker Danny Mayor, who made his Owls debut off the bench against Palace, are both pushing for starting places. Summer signing Pecnik played 83 minutes of Slovenia's 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat in Norway in midweek.
