Match Preview
Painter boost for Poyet Brighton boss Gus Poyet could have defender Marcos Painter available when his side go in search of a fourth successive league win against Tranmere at the Withdean Stadium. The Seagulls left-back had to be stretchered off in the 80th minute of Tuesday night's 1-0 win at Brentford after suffering a nasty kick to the head, but is expected to recover in time to retain his place in the starting line-up. Fellow defender Adam El-Abd is pushing for a recall on his return from a two-match ban, and will fight it out with Tommy Elphick for the right to partner Gordon Greer at the centre of Albion's defence. Defender Jim McNulty (ankle) and midfielder Jamie Smith (foot) both remain sidelined as they continue their recovery from long-term injuries. Tranmere boss Les Parry is set to the wield the axe. Rovers were beaten 1-0 at home by relegation rivals Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night and Parry spared only Andy Robinson and John Welsh from criticism. His attempts to bring in a new midfielder on loan failed but Parry will still ring the changes for the daunting clash with Gus Poyet's table-toppers. However, he will first assess the fitness of defenders Ian Goodison and Mark McChrystal, who are struggling with knee and rib injuries respectively. Teenage prospect Dale Jennings has been sidelined with a groin injury for the past month and Parry is wary of rushing him back into action too soon. Marlon Broomes, Alan Mahon and Ryan Fraughan remain long-term absentees, but Rovers are hoping to extend the loan of attacking midfielder Lateef Elford-Alliyu from West Brom.

Match Report
Seagulls still soaring Second-half goals from strikers Chris Wood and Glenn Murray earned runaway leaders Brighton a 2-0 win against Tranmere - their eighth successive home victory. Rovers, now without a win in seven games, defended stubbornly in the first half but Brighton took a stranglehold once they had gone ahead. The Seagulls broke the deadlock after 63 minutes when defender Ian Goodison handled Elliott Bennett`s ball into the box and Wood, on loan from West Brom, stepped up to drill home his eighth goal of the season from the penalty spot to the right of goalkeeper Tony Warner. Brighton keeper Casper Ankergren came to his side's rescue moments later with an important scrambling save to keep out an Andy Robinson effort. But Murray doubled Brighton's lead after 72 minutes with his 18th goal of the campaign, turning skilfully to fire past a static Warner following a long throw into the area. Struggling Tranmere had an early penalty appeal turned down when the on-rushing Robinson appeared to be barged off the ball on the edge of the area by Marcos Painter. Brighton midfielder Matt Sparrow was thwarted by Warner after a through ball and Murray was unable to get sufficient purchase on the rebound. Sparrow had a 25-yard shot saved by Warner after Bennett laid the ball to him midway through the first half. And Bennett struck a low free-kick just wide in first-half stoppage time after Robinson was penalised for obstruction.
