Match Preview

Duo back for Seagulls Gordon Greer and Glenn Murray are back in contention for Brighton's home game against Rochdale. Defender Greer and striker Murray missed the opening two games through suspensions carried over from last season. Greer, the summer signing from Swindon, has been named Seagulls captain and is set to replace either Tommy Elphick or Adam El-Abd at centre-half. Brighton will be without Alan Navarro, who has suffered a cruciate injury which could end his season, and fellow midfielder Matt Sparrow who starts a three-game ban for his red card at Northampton in midweek. Goalkeeper Peter Brezovan (wrist) and defender Lewis Dunk (foot) remain on the sidelines. Casper Ankergren should return in goal after Michael Poke got a run-out in the cup while Inigo Calderon, Elliott Bennett and Ashley Barnes will hope for recalls. Rochdale boss Keith Hill has a full-strength squad available for the long trip. Dale beat Barnsley in the first round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday, and Hill could name the same team that won 1-0 at Oakwell. However, summer signing Anthony Elding is pushing for a starting role after he came off the bench to score the winner against Mark Robins` side. Highly-rated defender Craig Dawson played the full 90 minutes in midweek but continues to be linked with a move away from Spotland. Rochdale have twice turned down transfer requests from the player over the summer following a #400,000 bid from Middlesbrough. Boro, Burnley and Ipswich are all understood to be vying for his signature.

Match Report

Jones secure last-gasp point for Dale A dramatic stoppage-time goal from skipper Gary Jones gave League One newcomers Rochdale a deserved point in a four-goal thriller at Withdean Stadium. Midfielder Jones lobbed keeper Casper Ankergren from 20 yards in the third minute of added time after the Dane had made a mess of an attempted clearance. All the goals came in the second half and the Seagulls broke the deadlock two minutes after the break when former Rochdale striker Glenn Murray showed awareness to head home after his initial header from a free-kick from Elliott Bennett rebounded off the bar. Dale drew level six minutes later through a penalty by Jones after Brighton skipper Gordon Greer was shown a straight red card for punching substitute Anthony Elding, who would only come onto the field moments later. Former Wolves winger Bennett looked to have put Brighton on the way to their second successive victory when he scored with a tremendous 20-yard shot in the 67th minute. But Rochdale pushed hard in the closing stages and came close through Chris O'Grady and Elding before Jones struck to give them a hard-fought point.
