Match Preview

El-Abd missing for Seagulls Brighton boss Gus Poyet will be without defender Adam El-Abd for the home clash with Carlisle. The centre-back will begin a two-match ban after accumulating 10 yellow cards this season, so Tommy Elphick will take his place in the starting line-up against the Cumbrians. Fellow defender Radostin Kishishev is likely to be added to the squad following his return to training after a month out with back and then personal problems. Midfielder Alan Navarro is also back in training following seven months on the sidelines with ruptured cruciate ligament damage, although he is unlikely to feature in the first team until he has more reserve-team action under his belt. Long-term absentees Jim McNulty (foot) and Jamie Smith (foot) will miss out again as they continue their rehabilitation. Carlisle striker Francois Zoko is expected to return to contention following illness. But Zoko, who missed out in midweek, may have to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench after the Cumbrians' impressive 3-1 win at Charlton, where all three strikers - Ben Marshall, Craig Curran and Rory Loy - got on the scoresheet. Central defender Lubo Michalik and skipper Paul Thirlwell are not yet ready to return to action following respective hamstring and calf strains, while centre-half Liam Cooper, on loan from Hull, is still sidelined with a broken bone in his hand. Manager Greg Abbott must decide whether to start with winger Matty Robson at left-back after several solid performances or recall on-loan QPR defender Gary Borrowdale, who has had to settle for a place on the bench in recent matches.

Match Report

Bridcutt stuns stubborn Cumbrians Midfielder Liam Bridcutt fired a dramatic winner four minutes into stoppage time to snatch Brighton their sixth successive home League victory - 4-3 against plucky Carlisle. Carlisle, the last side to win at Brighton in the League last April, stunned the leaders by going ahead after only three minutes. The Seagulls failed to clear a corner from James Berrett and the ball bounced out to Tom Taiwo, who beat goalkeeper Casper Ankergren with a shot from the edge of the area. Carlisle keeper Adam Collin saved well from Craig Noone before Glenn Murray levelled with his 17th goal of the season after being put through by strike partner Ashley Barnes. Brighton were wasteful immediately after the break, with central defenders Gordon Greer and Tommy Elphick heading over from good positions. But Barnes latched on to a clever pass from Bridcutt to put the Seagulls ahead, smashing in a powerful angled shot. Carlisle equalised on the hour through Ben Marshall, who finished impressively following a move involving substitute Francois Zoko and Berrett. Barnes restored Brighton's lead in the 63rd minute following a ball over the top, scoring with the outside of his right boot with a shot which went in off the post. Substitute Harry Arter looked to have earned the Cumbrians a point on his debut when he scored two minutes into added time, but there was still enough left for the Seagulls.
