Match Preview

Weston worry for Bees Myles Weston will be handed a late fitness test ahead of Brentford's home game against Walsall. The winger missed Tuesday night's Carling Cup win over Cheltenham after suffering a groin injury at Carlisle, but he hopes to return at the weekend. Striker Carl Cort is still sidelined with an Achilles injury with boss Andy Scott not expecting him back for at least another week. On-loan Huddersfield forward Robbie Simpson scored on his full debut against the Robins and is in line to keep his place. Summer signings Michael Spillane and David McCracken, who were hauled off at half-time during the opening-day defeat at Carlisle, were unused substitutes in midweek and could find themselves back on the bench again. Walsall travel with a fully-fit squad looking to avoid a hat-trick of defeats in their first three games of the season. Full-back Ryan McGivern has returned from international duty with Northern Ireland and is available, while central defender Oliver Lancashire recovered from a thigh strain to start Tuesday`s Carling Cup defeat to Tranmere. The Saddlers were disappointing in last weekend`s 2-1 opening-day reverse to MK Dons and less than impressive, although marginally improved, in the 1-0 loss to Rovers. And manager Chris Hutchings will be looking at ways to get more from his squad, especially in attack where they have looked toothless following the departure of Troy Deeney. One option could be to push winger Steve Jones into a forward position, while youngster Will Grigg could be promoted from the bench, with Alex Nicholls the man most likely to make way.

Match Report

Smash-and-grab Saddlers Walsall staged a smash-and-grab raid to clinch their first points of the season with a 2-1 win at Brentford. Julian Gray volleyed home the winner from Darren Byfield's cross after the Bees failed to clear their lines. The visitors had taken the lead after 12 minutes when Alex Nicholls latched onto a harmless-looking through ball to fire past stranded goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. After that it was all Brentford, and they drew level just before the break when Gary Alexander flashed a header past Saddlers goalkeeper Jonny Brain from Robbie Simpson's whipped right-wing cross. Brentford peppered the visitors' goal, with Sam Wood and Alexander both firing narrowly wide before Gray smashed home at the far post. Alexander went close to levelling in the 66th minute with a clever lob which was well saved by Brain, who also kept his side in the game with a reflex save with his legs from Craig Woodman's 90th-minute free-kick.
