Match Preview
Bees stung by injuries Brentford could have a defensive headache ahead of the visit of Southampton. Karleigh Osborne was taken to hospital with concussion following Monday's draw at Notts County, leaving the Bees with no fit centre-halves. Pim Balkestein had already been ruled out for the season with an ankle injury and Leon Legge was missing with a groin problem. Osborne remains a doubt but Legge was due to train by the end of the week and will be handed a late check. Full-back Craig Woodman is struggling with a foot injury and goalkeeper Richard Lee (shoulder) and strikers Gary Alexander (knee) and Charlie MacDonald (ankle) are out. Midfielder Adam Reed has extended his loan deal from Sunderland but defender Owain Tudur Jones has gone back to Norwich. Southampton will still be without Alex Chamberlain and Lee Barnard. Teenage winger Chamberlain and 16-goal striker Barnard are sidelined by ankle injuries and are unlikely to play again this season. Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin (knee) and winger Lee Holmes (ankle) remain long-term absentees but boss Nigel Adkins has no new injury concerns. Left-back Dan Harding and midfielder Adam Lallana overcame groin problems to play in Monday's 2-0 win over Hartlepool and came through unscathed. Radhi Jaidi, Danny Butterfield, Richard Chaplow and former Brentford defender Ryan Dickson are pushing for recalls after dropping out against Pools. Saints remain in the second automatic promotion spot on goal difference from Huddersfield and with a game in hand.

Match Report
Saints edge ever nearer Southampton edged closer to automatic promotion with a comfortable 3-0 win at Brentford. Adam Lallana broke the deadlock after 17 minutes when he picked up the ball in space to fire home inside the near post. The visitors could easily have been four-up by then as they overpowered Brentford's makeshift defence, Guly Do Prado heading over at the back post and David Connolly firing over from close range. But Connolly only had to wait until midway through the first half to extend the Saints' lead when he outfought Brentford defender Robbie Neilson to run on and send a delicate lob over the advancing goalkeeper. The closest the hosts came in a one-sided first half was when Lewis Grabban fired in a long-range effort saved at the second attempt by Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis. His opposite number Moore did well to parry Dan Harding's blistering free-kick after the break before Brentford started to get a late foothold in the game. Grabban fired into the side-netting and lively substitute Myles Weston gave his side hope when he was brought down in the penalty area by Jose Fonte. But Sam Saunders crashed his spot kick against the upright to sum up the last Griffin Park game of the season and it got worse for the Bees in injury time when Lallana teed us Oscar Gobern to side-foot home the Saints' third.
