Match Preview

Double boost for Bees Niall McGinn and Marcus Bean return to the Brentford squad for the visit of Scunthorpe. The midfielders missed last week's 2-2 draw at Carlisle due to international duty, McGinn with the Northern Ireland squad and Bean making his first appearance for Jamaica. Defenders Leon Legge (hamstring) and Shaleum Logan (ankle) are still unavailable, although the latter is back in training and has been pencilled in for a reserve game next week. Gary Alexander remains on the sidelines with a knee injury but he too hopes to step up his training next week. Fellow striker David Clarkson plays the last game of his initial one-month loan spell from Bristol City and is unsure whether the deal will be extended. Scunthorpe will welcome back a trio of players from international duty. Niall Canavan and Shane Duffy have been away with the Republic of Ireland Under-21s and Oliver Norwood has been on duty with Northern Ireland, but all three have returned unscathed and could feature. Midfielder Michael Collins (tendonitis) and right-back Cliff Byrne have returned to training, though Saturday's clash at Griffin Park will come too soon for the pair. Jordan Robertson (broken foot), Matt Godden (hip/hernia), Josh Lillis and Jimmy Ryan (both knee) remain long-term absentees. Knill will be desperate for his side to get back to winning ways after last week's home defeat to Leyton Orient brought an abrupt end to their mini-revival, which saw them win their first two League One games of the season.

Match Report

Bees can't find buzz on home soil Brentford's dismal home form continued with a scrappy goalless draw against 10-man Scunthorpe, who had Andrew Wright sent off. Uwe Rosler's Bees rarely looked like ending their disappointing run at Griffin Park as the Iron cancelled them out in a dour midfield battle. The visitors always looked more likely to break the deadlock in the first half, Shane Duffy forcing a reflex save from Bees goalkeeper Richard Lee and Chris Dagnall volleying over from close range after good work down the flank. The closest Brentford came was when Celtic loan star Niall McGinn saw his low drive tipped wide by Scunthorpe goalkeeper Sam Johnstone after a driving run. McGinn was the only real threat, but his low cross just before the hour mark eluded David Clarkson and when the ball was swung back in from the opposite flank his glancing header drifted agonisingly wide. Brentford threatened late on, but Johnstone was again equal to two headers from Marcus Bean and Scunthorpe's point was all the more deserved after Wright was sent off with just under 20 minutes remaining for two bookable offences.
