Match Preview

Forster in Bees frame Veteran striker Nicky Forster hopes to line up against one of his old clubs when Brentford host Charlton. Forster, who spent the second half of last season on loan at The Valley, needs a groin operation but has been asked to delay going under the knife with the Bees struggling at the foot of the table. Charlie MacDonald, another former Addicks frontman, is sidelined with an ankle injury so Forster is in line to start alongside either Gary Alexander or Carl Cort. Boss Andy Scott could also be without midfielder Toumani Diagouraga, who is struggling with flu. Huddersfield loanee Robbie Simpson misses out again with a hamstring injury and midfielder David Hunt remains on the sidelines with damaged ankle ligaments. Christian Dailly and Rob Elliot are back for Charlton. Skipper Dailly resumed training on Monday after missing five matches with a fractured eye socket and could go straight in at centre-half. Goalkeeper Elliot is also fit again after injuring his elbow in training a fortnight ago and will hope to oust his replacement Ross Worner. Striker Joe Anyinsah is doubtful after suffering a recurrence of a back injury during the warm-up ahead of Tuesday night's win over MK Dons. Paul Benson, who opened his Charlton goalscoring account against the Dons, continues in attack. Midfielder Alan McCormack will be out for another 10 days with a calf problem and full-backs Chris Solly (ankle) and Kelly Youga (knee) are still missing.

Match Report

Bees haul themselves off bottom spot Brentford moved off the bottom of the table with a 2-1 London derby win over rivals Charlton. First-half goals from Gary Alexander and Toumani Diagouraga gave the Bees breathing space, but Scott Wagstaff ensured a nail-biting finale for the Bees with a stinging volley 16 minutes from time. Brentford dominated the first half and it was no surprise when Alexander latched on to a loose ball in a box to rifle home into the roof of the net. Thierry Racon flashed a rare Addicks effort past the upright before Diagouraga made it two-nil to Brentford just after half an hour following a flowing move with a curling drive from the edge of the box. Veteran striker Nicky Forster tested Charlton goalkeeper Rob Elliot with a low drive just before the break before the game swung in favour of the visitors after the interval. Pawel Abbott missed two gilt-edged chances to haul his side back into it before Kyel Reid slipped past Michael Spillane to cross for Wagstaff to smash a volley inside the near post. Addicks substitute Akpo Sodje forced a late double save from Bees' goalkeeper Ben Hamer, but the home side held on.
