Match Preview

McLean doubt for Brechin Paul McLean's comeback from a hamstring injury was halted in the warm-up for Saturday's game against East Fife and he is a doubt for Brechin`s clash with third-placed Ayr. Charlie King remains sidelined, while Craig Molloy misses out through suspension following his red card at the weekend. Boss Jim Weir is looking for his men to secure three of the five points he feels are needed to secure a play-off spot. He said: "I want the points on board as soon as possible, but Ayr had a great result at the weekend when they defeated Forfar. "They will be keen to jump over us in the table so we will have to play well to get the first points I`m after." Ayr have injury and suspension problems to contend with as go in search of the win that would lift them into second place. Martyn Campbell is banned, Scott McLaughlin and Dean Keenan are out injured and Jim Lachlan is a doubt. Manager Brian Reid was delighted with his side's first victory in six games - a 3-1 win against Forfar - as he said: "Our form has continued to be good but we scored at the weekend and that made all the difference. "It was a great boost for everyone to finally get the result they deserved." Reid added: "We have six games left and I want us to secure a play-off place, get some momentum behind us and then enter the end of the season full of confidence."

Match Report

Brechin blown away by Ayr Ayr secured an impressive 3-0 win at Brechin as they replaced their opponents into second place in the Scottish Second Division. After Rory McAllister had twice come close to giving Brechin the lead in the early stages, United went in front 12 minutes before half-time with Michael Moffat rifling into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. It was 2-0 just two minutes later as Mark Roberts converted a penalty for his 20th league goal of the season following Ewan Moyes' foul on Alan Trouten. Brechin offered little in reply in the second half and it was no surprise when the away side notched a third five minutes from time, David Crawford with a close-range finish.
