Match Preview

Weir: Play-off place is in our hands Fourth-placed Brechin need to clinch at least a point against second-placed Ayr to be sure of clinching a play-off spot that has looked like being theirs all season. City received a double boost at training on Thursday night as goalkeeper Craig Nelson and midfielder Jamie Redman were both passed fit for the game. Full-back Paul McLean is suspended while midfielder Charlie King's comeback after six months out is unlikely to be risked in such a high-pressure encounter. Brechin are three points ahead of East Fife, who travel to Airdrie, with the two sides level on goal difference. Manager Jim Weir said: "I expect East Fife to win their game but matters are still in our hands even if they do. "I will send the team out on the usual lines and go for the win as there is no point in playing for a point as that just invites trouble." Ayr will again be without long-term absentee Dean Keenan for the big final day clash. Manager Brian Reid is unlikely to recall Jonathan Tiffoney, Ryan McCann or Mark Roberts who were all rested for last week's 4-2 win over Airdrie. Eddie Malone and Martyn Campbell are doubts after picking up slight strains in training this week, however on-loan Partick winger Stuart Bannigan could return after his toe injury improved. Reid said: "The guys who came in last week did really well to defeat Airdrie so there is no point in rushing someone back when they are not totally ready for it. "Despite being a bit low on experience this is a game we want to win."

Match Report

McAllister strike enough for Brechin Rory McAllister scored his 19th league goal of the season as Brechin cemented their play-off place with a 1-0 win over Ayr. Great work down the right from Neil Janczyk ended with his cross being headed in by McAllister, who gave the keeper no chance as his effort flew into the top-right of the goal. Brechin's Ewan Moyes then wasted a golden opportunity to double the advantage as he put his effort over the crossbar from six yards following good work down the right from Mitchell Megginson. Ayr's best effort fell to David Crawford as he fired inches over from 18 yards. In the second half, McAllister and Janczyk both went close as Brechin looked to put the result beyond doubt. The win puts Brechin into the play-off places as they look to gain promotion to League One.
