Match Report

Doncaster staged a tremendous comeback with 10 men after Ricky Ravenhill had been sent off just two minutes after scoring a spectacular goal.

City were kicking themselves for throwing away the points after being 2-0 up but a draw was no more then Doncaster deserved for their battling display.

Doncaster were unlucky to be behind at the interval after having more of the play in the first half.

Paul Green twice went close in the early stages before Steve Claridge sent a glancing header just wide at the other end with 13 minutes on the clock.

Michael McIndoe should have fired Doncaster in front it the 21st minute but his first shot was parried by Russell Howarth and when he followed up it was well off the mark.

Claridge missed a free header before City scored against the run of play just before the interval.

Tom Kearney pounced with a clever lob shot to notch his first league goal of the season after Jan Budtz had punched a free-kick straight to his feet.

Worse was to follow for Doncaster when Claridge made it 2-0 with a close-range volley a couple of minutes after the interval after good work by Ben Muirhead and Dean Windass.

But the home side showed plenty of character when they battled back in the 55th minute as Ravenhill gave them a lifeline with a 20-yard shot which rocketed into the top corner.

Ravenhill was shown the red card a couple of minutes later for a second bookable offence after clashing with Windass and it looked as if Rovers would lose their momentum.

But they carried on undaunted and were rewarded with a 69th minute equaliser when Nick Fenton scored with a diving header after Neil Roberts had flicked on a corner from McIndoe.

Bobby Petta had an effort saved in injury time as City tried in vain to snatch the points.
