Match Preview

Jackson turning to youth Bradford manager Peter Jackson could name three teenagers on his bench for the home game with Crewe. Jackson, who has no new injury or suspension problems, is keen to hand youth-team skipper Alex Flett, a midfielder, winger Dominic Rowe and striker Darren Stephenson a taste of first-team action. Rowe and Stephenson have both stepped off the bench already this season for Jackson's side, while Flett is hoping to make his first appearance. All three players are 18. Tommy Doherty will not be involved as he has had his contract terminated by mutual consent, but fellow midfielder Tom Adeyemi, on loan from Norwich, is hoping to return for the last game of the season after missing out in recent weeks due to a thigh injury. Midfielder Michael Flynn (hamstring) misses out again and on-loan winger Kevin Ellison has returned to parent club Rotherham. AJ Leitch-Smith could declare himself fit for when Crewe complete their campaign. The young striker has been struggling with a hamstring injury but has resumed training. "He has trained well and we will see how he feels ahead of the game," said Alex boss Dario Gradi. Danny Blanchett missed the home win over Stockport last weekend with a groin strain but the full-back could return to the squad. Mat-Mitchel-King deputised for Blanchett against the Hatters. Captain David Artell could come back into the reckoning after a hamstring injury, while Antoni Sarcevic, Ashley Westwood and Joel Grant are available for recalls. Oliver Turton made his debut towards the end of the Stockport game and the youngster could be involved once more.

Match Report

Bantams sign off in sorry style Bradford crashed to a 5-1 defeat against Crewe in what could be their last match at Valley Parade unless the club can do a deal to cut their #750,000 rental overheads. If not then a move to share with rugby league neighbours Bradford Bulls at Odsal Stadium could be on the cards. Both sides went into the final day clash with nothing to play for but pride, but it was the Bantams who signed off nursing their heaviest defeat of the season. Crewe went in front after 12 minutes when Shaun Miller intercepted a misplaced pass from David Syers and took the ball around keeper Jon McLaughlin before shooting into the empty net. Bradford equalised after 22 minutes when Jake Speight was brought down by David Artell and Speight himself scored from the spot. However, the match was settled when a superior Crewe side scored three goals in a 10-minute spell before half-time. Miller added his second after 33 minutes having taken a pass from Byron Moore before leading scorer Clayton Donaldson registered his 28th league goal of the season, beating McLaughlin with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Danny Shelley then scored goal number four a minute before half-time when McLaughlin failed to hold his 25-yard shot. Shelley then completed the scoring in the 67th minute with a deflected shot in a crowded goalmouth after two previous efforts had been blocked.
