Match Report

Both Rochdale and Bournemouth extended their unbeaten runs and both will feel that perhaps they might have taken more from the game.

The home side were looking to move closer to the top of the table while Bournemouth, having now got themselves into a positive where points are concerned, were looking to improve their position near the bottom.

In a game dominated by the referee, Bournemouth took the lead with a penalty just before the break and could count themselves unlucky not to have had an early spot-kick midway through the first half.

The home side started the better with Cherries keeper Shwan Jalal tipping over a third-minute pile-driver from Adam Le Fondre.

Chances came and went sporadically for the home side before a mistake by defender Marcus Holness seemed to have given Josh McQuoid a close-range chance.

However, he was brought down virtually on the line by Simon Ramsden with referee Laws waving away frantic appeals for a penalty from the bench.

The home side continued to miss chances and, right on the stroke of half-time, they fell behind when the lively Matt Tubbs raced away, from perhaps an offside position, and was eventually fouled in the area by Holness.

After the usual arguments had died down, veteran Lee Bradbury calmly stroked the spot-kick home from 12 yards.

If the first half was even, the second period was definitely one-way traffic as Rochdale finally found their passing range and played some fluent football.

They drew level on 67 minutes when a clever pass by Clark Keltie found Le Fondre in space and the club's leading scorer joyfully smashed home his ninth goal of the season from 12 yards.

From then on in Bournemouth defended their point as if their very lives depended on it, with central defender Shaun Cooper outstanding, and when the defence was breached keeper Jalal made a series of decent saves.
