It's 3pm on Saturday, March 31st, the match has kicked off.
Andy Bishop was Bury's late hero with the vital goal that settled a scrappy relegation clash. The three point haul eased the Shakers anxieties in the drop-zone and ended a 16-match winless run for the visitors. But the result dealt a severe blow to Boston's own hopes of survival. Boston exerted plenty of early pressure and forced three quick corners before a low fourth-minute drive by Francis Green forced Bury keeper Andy Warrington into saving action. Bury responded with a period of pressure but the visitors were almost caught out on 13 minutes when Green broke clear onto a Drewe Broughton flick, but sent a chip shot too high. Warrington again rescued Bury in the 22nd minute when making a fine-blocking save to deny Broughton after the home striker had been threaded through by Green. Moments later, Green saw his angled drive from the left fizz inches too high. More Boston pressure then followed and on 28 minutes Broughton broke from the halfway line but his angled drive from the corner of the area flashed wide. And seconds later a shot from a similar spot by Green met the same fate. Little was seen of the Bury attack in terms of genuine threat and it took until first-half stoppage time for their first effort at goal to arrive - David Buchanan seeing his speculative shot fly over the top. Apart from a couple of surging runs down the left flank by David Farrell for Boston the early stages of the second half were generally scrappy. The 64th minute brought Bury the best chance of the game. Bishop delivered a fine cross from the right but Glynn Hurst somehow ballooned the ball over the top from inside the six-yard area. A few minutes later home keeper Andy Marriott had to be alert to kick away a mis-cued back-header from Mark Greaves to ensure the score stayed level. Bury grabbed the win on 86 minutes when Bishop swivelled to fire past Marriott from 15 yards after Darren Kempson headed down Dave Challinor's free-kick.
