Rushden eased their relegation fears with a 4-2 victory over Boston despite being reduced to ten men in 70th minute when Rob Gier was sent off for a second bookable offence. Boston started the better of the two sides and on six minutes Brad Maylett shot wide when well placed. Boston were rewarded for their early pressure when Gier was judged to have fouled Maylett and Daryl Clare cooly converted the penalty. Rushden were unlucky in the 25th minute when David Bell saw his goal bound shot deflected for a corner. On 26 minutes, Rushden equalized when substitute Drewe Broughton, who had come on for Adrian Littlejohn, was on hand to score from close range after Nathan Abbey could not hold Stuart Gray's fierce shot. Ten minutes later Billy Sharp almost put Rushden ahead when his volley went inches over the bar and in the 31st minute Boston's David Noble forced a fine save from keeper Scott Shearer. Boston regained the lead in the 34th minute when Courtney Pitt crossed from the right and Maylett, unmarked, headed home. On 37 minutes Rushden's Neil McCafferty saw his free kick pushed onto the bar and rebound to safety. Boston continued to look the better side early in the second half and Pitt and Noble combined well in the 48th minute, Pitt shooting wide when he should have scored. Rushden equalized in the 54th minute when Gray found Sharp who turned well and shot past Abbey. Rushden then went in front in the 65th minute when Williams' long ball found Sharp who ran on and shot cooly past Abbey to make it 3-2. Shearer was Rushden's saviour in the 75th minute when he saved with legs from Pitt. Despite having Gier sent off in the 70th minute, Rushden put the game beyond doubt in the 87th minute when Sharp completed his hat-trick, turning well again in the area and shooting past Abbey. Boston fought hard to get back into the game and Simon Rusk was unlucky when he saw his volley hit the bar.
