The ref has blown his whistle and the match has started.
Boston United manager Steve Evans played three trump cards which changed the outcome of this bottom of the table clash at Moss Rose. Trailing by two goals at half time, his dispirited side looked ready to surrender. However, the introduction of much-troubled Julian Joachim and Brad Maylett had an immediate effect. On 48 minutes it was Joachim's first touch of the game, a neat turn and pass, that released Maylett who in turn scored with his first touch, a clinical low strike to the far corner from 15 yards. Then on 67 minutes Evans brought on Noel Whelan whose first telling contribution was a thunderous half-volley on the turn from 20 yards which was still rising as it hit the back of the net. Macclesfield had taken the lead on 21 minutes after dominating the opening exchanges. John Miles danced to the byline before delivering a pin-point cross for Kevin McIntyre to head home from the six-yard line. McIntyre could then claim an assist as ten minutes later his in-swinging corner was glanced past his own keeper by Ben Futcher. Futcher tried to make amends on the stroke of half time with an acrobatic scissors kick that was safely saved by Alan Fettis. With honours even at 2-2 both sides had chances to steal all three points. Fettis was forced to save twice from Joachim and Maylett, the best save low and to his left to tip inches wide a powerful low strike from the former Coventry and Aston Villa predator. At the other end substitute Kevin Townson threatened for Macclesfield, twice moving the ball onto his left foot but from 15 yards out failing to find the clinical finish that his team's polished approach play deserved.
