Match Report

Lawrie Dudfield scored his first Boston goal to earn the Pilgrims a deserved draw at Gigg Lane.

It wasn't a memorable strike from the much travelled frontman, but neither Dudfield or manager Steve Evans were complaining.

"We could have had five or six in the second half," said Evans. "Apart from one breakaway when Bury might have scored, we were always in control, however, the first half was unacceptable. You can't expect to go to ground and be average for 45 minutes if you want to take three points."

Evans was so disgusted by his team, he sent them out several minutes early for the start of the second period. But his words and actions did the trick as they bossed the home team from the restart.
Bury had taken the lead after 37 minutes from Dwayne Mattis. The midfielder, who hadn't scored since the opening day of the season at Cheltenham, flicked in a Brian Barry-Murphy corner that gave Nathan Abbey no chance.

Earlier, Abbey had made a double stop from Matt Tipton and Simon Whaley while Boston's best effort in the opening half came from Ian Ross.

Whaley should have made sure for Bury in the 60thminute, but his one on one with Abbey saw him beat the keeper but not the post.

"I'm disappointed with the way we played in the second half because in the first half we looked the better footballing team," said Bury boss Graham Barrow. "It's all down to confidence now.
"The players have got to show some belief because we looked nervous at times and that's down to the position we are in."
