Match Preview
Subotic hopes for change in luck Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic hopes his side's luck can turn to keep them in the hunt for a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League. Fortune has certainly not been lacking in the Bundesliga, where Dortmund have opened up a seven-point lead at the top over Mainz, but they have been drawing the short straw in Europe and, unless they beat Karpaty Lviv, they will be out of their second cup competition this season after already losing in the DFB-Pokal. But Subotic was quick to point out the thin line between success and failure. "We have just been unlucky in the group phase," he told ran.de. "If you see the way we played Sevilla up against the wall then you have got to agree. "If you don't get three points playing games like that, then that is just bad luck. We were dominant in our games against Paris (St Germain) too, yet we only picked up two points." According to the defender, inexperience is not an issue even if his side is playing in European competition again for only the first time in seven years. "This argument is not valid," he explained. "At the end of the day, this is the same team which has shown in the Bundesliga how much experience it now has. "I just think we have had incredibly bad luck, but I am always a realist and we still have a chance of going through. "We just have to hope we win our remaining two games against Lviv and Sevilla." Even that may not be enough to take the Westphalians through, though. Should Sevilla beat PSG, a win for the Parisians over Karpaty in the final group game would still take them through due to their superior head-to-head record against Dortmund. "I don't like it when you have to rely on somebody else," admitted Subotic. "That is always a bad thing." Nevertheless, Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp would have no complaints about that scenario arising. "Our aim is to win the last two games and end with 11 points," he said. "Then I would be happy. "We cannot do any more than that." Klopp should send out his strongest team at the Westfalenstadion tomorrow night, although striker Lucas Barrios is out injured. His place will be taken by Robert Lewandowski, making only his third start of the season despite being used as a substitute 13 times already. Karpaty ended the 2010 calendar year domestically with a 4-2 victory over Zorya last weekend. That keeps them in the hunt for a renewed European qualification next season, but they have to wait until March 5 before their next league match, meaning they can focus all of their efforts on picking up a maiden win in Europe either on Wednesday night or at home to PSG in a fortnight.

Match Report
Dortmund still alive German Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund remain alive in the fight to qualify from Group J of the Europa League after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Karpaty Lviv. Shinji Kawaga put Dortmund ahead after five minutes and Mats Hummels made it 2-0 in the 49th minute before Robert Lewandowski finished off the scoring in the 89th minute. Dortmund had not won in the group since their 4-3 win at Lviv in their first game but this result moves them on to eight points with one match remaining. Karpaty entered the game with no hope of progressing and remain in last place with no points. Dortmund were without top scorer Lucas Barrios, who had picked up a knee injury on the weekend, but that didn't stop the Germans from grabbing the lead after just five minutes. Lviv failed to clear a corner kick and Nuri Sahin sent a left-footed cross from the right side into the box which Kawaga headed just inside the right post from eight yards out. The hosts missed a golden chance to double the lead eight minutes later as Lewandowski raced through on Vitaly Rudenko but the Polish international could not beat the Karpaty keeper. The hosts again went close after 22 minutes but Kawaga's fierce shot went just wide of the left-hand post. Lviv finally had a good chance in the 24th minute with Igor Khudobyak's dangerous free-kick into the box being cleared by Dortmund's Sven Bender. Dortmund had outplayed the Ukrainians in the first half but still could not double the lead as Kevin Grosskretuz fired wide after a swift counter-attack. Karpaty appealed for a penalty just before the break as Neven Subotic ran into Mykhaylo Kopolovets in the area, but referee Eric Braamhaar did not point to the spot. Dortmund doubled their advantage four minutes after the break as Sahin's free-kick was headed home by Hummels despite Rudenko getting a hand to the ball. Kawaga nearly scored his second in the 57th minute but his header was deflected wide and Lewandowski headed wide from the ensuing corner. Rudenko then made another superb save with 11 minutes to play, stopping Lewandowski. But Lewandowski made it 3-0 in the 89th minute after collecting a pass by Sahin, cutting in from the right and firing home.
