Match Preview

Bolton Wanderers will be wanting to twist the knife into Gianfranco Zola's West Ham United side with a victory at the Reebok Stadium on Tuesday night as both teams struggle at the foot of the Premier League table.

The Trotters grabbed an impressive 3-3 draw with Manchester City at the weekend with Ivan Klasnic at the double and Gary Cahill smashing home for Gary Megson's men and they will be buoyed by their performance against this season's big-spenders.

Megson may be disappointed that his side led on three separate occasions before being pegged back by ten-man City.

Bolton sit second from bottom and the Hammers hover just one place above them as the fight to avoid the drop gathers pace.

The Lancashire club are currently on a dismal run after picking up just two points from a possible 18 since their 3-2 home win against Everton on October 25.

During this bleak streak they have conceded a massive 17 goals.

Zola's men have lost their last two games following a 1-0 reversal at Birmingham City over the weekend and they need to get back to winning ways if they are to move away from the relegation dogfight.

Dean Ashton has announced his retirement from the game after failing to recover from a long-standing ankle injury while Zavon Hines, Valon Behrami and Carlton Cole (all knee), Matthew Upson (hamstring), Calum Davenport (thigh) and Luis Boa Morte (cruciate ligament) are all likely to be missing for the Londoners.

Bolton will still be without the services of long-term knee victims Sean Davis and Joey O'Brien as they prepare to face Wigan Athletic, Burnley and Hull City over the festive period.

The Hammers haven't won at Bolton for nine games and last season's fixture ended in a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Match Report

A terrible Robert Green mistake gifted fellow strugglers Bolton three valuable points and helped lift Gary Megson's side out of the bottom three.

The West Ham goalkeeper inexplicably spilt Tamir Cohen's innocuous header and Ivan Klasnic pounced to score the game's decisive goal with 13 minutes left.

Gary Cahill made certain of the points with a fine header late on to seal Wanderers' first win in eight attempts and heap the pressure on Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola.

Earlier Allesandro Diamanti had given West Ham hope when he cancelled out Chung-Yong Lee's 64th-minute opener.

Bolton dominated most of the first period and were nearly ahead after just 34 seconds when Kevin Davies' deflected shot flew inches wide.

The Hammers' only real chance of the half fell to Kieron Dyer who shot tamely at Jussi Jaaskelainen before limping off soon after with yet another injury.

Wanderers felt they should have had a penalty on the half-hour mark when Julien Faubert clearly handled inside the area, but the referee waved away the protests.

Megson's men continued to pile forward, creating a succession of chances the best of which fell to Zat Knight but the giant defender headed Lee's corner over the bar on 36 minutes.

Both sides came flying out for the second half as the game came to life. Herita Illunga scrambled Cohen's effort clear before Knight made a superb challenge to deny Diamanti.

Green then saved well after Cahill let fly and, seconds later, Jaaskelainen produced a wonderful save to tip over Scott Parker's piledriver on 55 minutes.

Finally the opening goal came when Klasnic slipped in an offside-looking Lee and he lifted the ball over the onrushing Green.

But the Hammers were level just five minutes later when Jack Collison teed-up Diamanti and the unmarked Italian rifled home.

But Green's blunder gifted Bolton the points as Klasnic struck on 77 minutes - and Cahill headed home Ricardo Gardner's corner with two minutes left.
