However, Bolton are not afraid of trips to the Bridge and stole a point on the final day of last season when the Blues were again chasing Manchester United.
Chelsea stepped up their season at Anfield in midweek and Guus Hiddink will be looking to continue that momentum with another win today.
Welcome to Stamford Bridge where title chasing Chelsea welcome Bolton Wanderers.
Chelsea plan to keep hopes of a third Premier League title in five years alive by beating a revitalised Bolton Wanderers side at Stamford Bridge. Guus Hiddink has guided the Blues to five victories in their last six league matches but the one loss, at Tottenham, could prove crucial as they are still four points behind current leaders Manchester United, who also have a game in hand. Hiddink's arrival at Stamford Bridge coincided with Didier Drogba's return to form, but Chelsea showed in last week's solid 2-0 victory at Newcastle United that they are capable of grinding out the results even in the Ivory Coast international's absence. An ankle injury kept Drogba out of the St James' Park success, after which Hiddink said: "We are happy to get three points and in the way we played for a good part of the game. "Now we regret even more we lost points against Spurs, but nevertheless until it's over we keep on fighting and we try to put the pressure on. We have to keep on winning with home games now and keep the pressure on." Wednesday's stunning 3-1 Champions League quarter-final first leg victory over much-fancied Liverpool certainly suggests the Blues are genuine contenders for the treble this season. They now have one foot in the last four of the Champions League and still in with a shout of winning both the Premier League and FA Cup. Jose Bosingwa is a doubt after missing the midweek encounter with Liverpool because of a hamstring injury, but understudy Branislav Ivanovic hardly harmed his chances of keeping hold of the starting berth with two headed goals at Anfield. Meanwhile, Joe Cole and Paulo Ferreira (cruciate knee ligaments) will play no more football this season. Bolton all but banished any lingering relegation fears by thrashing Middlesbrough 4-1 last weekend, a result that lifted Gary Megson's side eight points clear of the drop-zone with only seven matches of the campaign remaining. The Trotters are only three points adrift of a top-half finish and it has been their recent form at the Reebok Stadium, they have won four of their last five home league games, which has lifted them to mid-table. They have not won on their travels since beating Sunderland 4-1 in November though, since when they have failed to taste victory in seven away games.

If Bolton manager Gary Megson thought Chelsea might take their eye off the ball in a Premiership fixture sandwiched between European matches, he was nearly proved right at Stamford Bridge as the Blues almost frittered away a four-goal advantage. A string of uncharacteristic second-half fumbles by Chelsea keeper Petr Cech allowed Bolton back into a game which appeared to be done and dusted. Three late Bolton strikes meant Chelsea were clinging on in the dying minutes having seemingly put the game beyond reach thanks to two goals from Didier Drogba, one from Michael Ballack and a Frank Lampard penalty. Bolton frustrated Chelsea for most of the first half, packing the box with bodies and denying the opposition attackers any space to shoot. The Blues' breakthrough came five minutes before the break when Ballack's clever one-two with Salomon Kalou on the right flank let the German midfielder fire home. Three minutes after the restart, Chelsea were two up. Kalou was fouled just outside the box by Jlloyd Samuel. Lampard's free-kick, a short daisy-cutter, fell perfectly for Drogba, who side-footed past the keeper. On the hour Chelsea scored a third from the spot after Gretar Steinsson had handled Lampard's flicked cross inside the area. Lampard coolly sent his right-footed spot-kick into the corner of the net. Two minutes later, a Florent Malouda corner was nodded down by right-back Branislav Ivanovic, the Blues' two-goal hero from midweek at Anfield, and Drogba poked in his second, and Chelsea's fourth. Blues manager Guus Hiddink felt confident enough to rest Lampard for the remainder of the game and sent Deco on in his place. Within four minutes Bolton sub Andrew O'Brien, on for Danny Shittu at the start of the second half, had scored a consolation following a Cech fumble. In the 74th minute it was 4-2 after another sub, Chris Basham, had converted a Kevin Davies header which sailed over Cech's head. The Blues' keeper was again guilty of failing to react quickly when a Jussi Jaaskelainen clearance was nodded on by Davies and Matt Taylor, Bolton's man of the match, nodded home. It set up a nervy final 12 minutes which saw a Steinsson clearance off the line from Chelsea sub Nicolas Anelka, and Gary Cahill's coming a whisker away from levelling for Bolton with the final kick of the game.
