Match Preview

Evatt back for Seasiders Blackpool defender Ian Evatt is available again for the club's first home match in the Barclays Premier League. Evatt looks in line to face Fulham at the revamped Bloomfield Road after missing the Carling Cup defeat by MK Dons through suspension. Goalkeeper Paul Rachubka remains sidelined after having an operation on his knee, as is striker Jason Euell. Boss Ian Holloway is thrilled at the prospect of playing in the new-look 16,000 all-seater stadium now the redevelopment has been completed and he has told his players to seize the moment against Fulham, now managed by Mark Hughes. Blackpool had to switch their opening-day fixture to Wigan - which ended in a 4-0 win - as the work was not done in time for the match. Holloway said: "I am told we are heading for our biggest crowd since 1977 and being at home in the Premier League is what we have all dreamed of. "My players have got to stop dreaming and actually do it. That is the hardest thing. "I managed to do it at 29. Gerry Francis took me to QPR and you do worry about yourself. Are you good enough? Are you quick enough? "I don't think any of my lads are, with the greatest respect to them. Collectively we have a great chance at the end of the season just as we did in the last campaign. "We know how tough it is going to be but I hope we can leave a mark. I hope it is quality football. "I expect Fulham to be a lot higher quality than we are but will try our best. I have always tried to be a glass-half-full person even in the bad times. That's what I want my players to be." Fulham boss Hughes must decide whether to pair Moussa Dembele with Bobby Zamora in attack. Dembele marked his full debut with a goal in Wednesday night's Carling Cup second-round thrashing of Port Vale and is pushing for another start. Fellow new signing Rafik Halliche could make his bow in defence, but goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer (back) may miss out again, while Philippe Senderos (Achilles), Andrew Johnson (knee) and Diomansy Kamara (foot) are long-term injury absentees. Hughes wants his Fulham side to be party poopers. Saturday sees the Seasiders host their first top-flight match for 39 years and it will also mark the opening of Bloomfield Road's new East Stand. The historic occasion is bound to induce a carnival atmosphere before kick-off but Cottagers boss Hughes is determined to spoil his hosts' big day. "There's huge interest in the town and obviously you see the enthusiasm it generates," said Hughes. "Everybody from Blackpool probably earmarked the first home game for a real show of solidarity for the team. I'm sure whatever crowd is in will give them great support. "From our point of view, we've got to make sure that we're able to quieten the crowd down and then play our stuff and maybe disappoint them at the end of the day."

Match Report

Etuhu denies Seasiders historic win England manager Fabio Capello took in Blackpool's first-ever Barclays Premier League game at Bloomfield Road and must have felt he was on a rollercoaster ride as Dickson Etuhu scored and 87th-minute equaliser for Fulham in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Bobby Zamora, who could be called up for England's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland, opened the scoring for Fulham before going off with a knock in the second half. Etuhu had the final word but Blackpool have now taken a heartening four points from three games in the top flight. Luke Varney almost put Blackpool ahead in the third minute. He tested goalkeeper David Stockdale - another possible England candidate - from the edge of the area - the keeper reacting to see the ball to safety. Blackpool had the ball in the net after 18 minutes but Brett Ormerod's header following a cross from Charlie Adam was ruled out for offside. Varney was looking lively and skipped past Pantsil two minutes later, only to find the wrong side of the post with his effort. Fulham responded and Etuhu saw his header from inside blocked after a corner by Damien Duff. Fulham carved out a good chance in the 26th minute when Zamora worked his way into the area and tried to release Simon Davies, but Alex Baptiste stood firm and made a crucial challenge just as his opponent was about to shoot. Fulham made the breakthrough in the 35th minute with a simple move that split the Blackpool defence. Duff slipped the ball through to Moussa Dembele, who delivered it into the centre and Zamora sent a powerful header beyond goalkeeper Matt Gilks. With the England squad about to be announced, it was good moment for Zamora to stress his aerial ability. Fulham were keen to build on their lead and Zamora got goal-side of Stephen Crainey in the 49th minute but failed to put enough power on his shot and Gilks made the save. Back came Blackpool and Ian Evatt's effort troubled Stockdale, but he recovered with Ormerod handily placed to capitalise on any mistake. Now it was Fulham's turn to come under some pressure and Stockdale spilled the ball following a challenge by Varney in the 61st minute. It fell to Elliot Grandin and he found the net but again Blackpool were out of luck. Referee Mike Oliver ruled that Stockdale had been fouled and disallowed Grandin's effort leaving manager Ian Holloway incensed on the touchline Blackpool drew level in the 70th minute when Varney's shot came off Aaron Hughes and back to Pantsil, who lost his bearings and diverted the ball past his own goalkeeper. With Zamora going off after taking a knock, Fulham appeared to have lost their way a little. And Blackpool took the lead in the 76th minute to send the home fans in the 15,529 crowd into dreamland. It was new recruit Varney who took the plaudits with a glorious finish across Stockdale after a defence-splitting pass by Ormerod. That goal only sparked Fulham into life, however and they drew level in the 87th minute when Etuhu sent a delicate lob over Gilks after being released by Dembele.
