Match Report

Toothless Doncaster had to settle for a point against a struggling Blackpool side that had not won for seven games.

It was the third goalless league game in a row for Doncaster since new boss Sean O'Driscoll took charge a fortnight ago.

Rovers looked jaded following their midweek Carling Cup extra time exertions against Derby and, with Blackpool showing little ambition, the game fizzled out to an inevitable conclusion.

Defences were on top throughout and clear-cut chances were few and far between, although Shaun Barker was unlucky when he hit the bar with a 20-yard snap-shot after latching on to a loose clearance in the 11th minute.

Paul Green had a cross cleared off the line by Barker a minute later but they were moments of rare goalmouth action as the game became scrappy with far too many passes pumped high into the air.

On loan midfielder Brian Stock had a 30-yard free-kick tipped over the bar and Sean McDaid had another long-range effort deflected off target.

But the home side struggled to raise their game apart from the odd flash of brilliance from skillfull danger man James Coppinger who had a goalbound effort blocked in the 23rd minute.

On loan Scottish winger Wes Hoolahan dribbled past a couple of Doncaster defenders before firing into the side netting nine minutes later.

The game continued in the same manner after the interval with neither side looking likely to break the deadlock.

James O'Connor dribbled through on the right but fired wide for Doncaster and Michael Jackson headed just over following a Blackpool corner.

The best chance of the match fell to Blackpool substitute Keigan Parker three minutes from time but he could not make it count.

Parker was left with only the keeper to beat after latching on to a pass from Sean Thornton but fired wide from the edge of the box with the goal at his mercy.

It summed a game which looked like remaining scoreless had it gone on until next week.
