Match Report

Tottenham Hotspur's dismal Premier League campaign could take another turn for the worse when in-form Blackburn Rovers visit White Hart Lane.

Spurs head coach Martin Jol's job seems to have been hanging by a thread for a couple of months now and his team's recent league performances have done little to aid his cause.

The North Londoners have won just once in ten league games this term, while their last outing in the Premier League ended in a 3-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Monday evening.

Jol told the club's official website after that setback: "On Monday we probably played our worst game since the beginning of the season, after putting together a run that saw us unbeaten in six games.

"We've scored 26 goals so far this season, so our position is not down to our attacking quality, it's just that the goals we're conceding are avoidable."

Jol is currently without first-choice keeper Paul Robinson due to injury, while the continued absence of skipper Ledley King is a major problem.

In contrast, Rovers are in prime form, having won their last three league games and having only been beaten once in the Premier League this term.

Mark Hughes' side possess a quality strikeforce in the shape of Roque Santa Cruz and Benni McCarthy, who have both scored six times this season.

After both men had found the target in the 4-2 win over Reading last time out, Hughes said: "They are good players and I thought some of their play was excellent.

"Technically they are very proficient players, so they are comfortable in possession. They can link the play, they can be creative in the final third and they can bring people into the game."

Hughes has few injury problems to contend with, and Ryan Nelsen is the only major absentee as he continues to struggle with a hamstring injury.

Last season both meetings of these two teams ended 1-1, with Jermain Defoe on target in both games for Spurs.
