Match Report

Manchester United face their second stern Premier League test in eight days when sixth-placed Blackburn Rovers visit Old Trafford.

United have been feeling the fallout from their thrilling 2-2 draw with league leaders Arsenal last weekend, including investigations into manager Sir Alex Ferguson's comments about referee Howard Webb.

Midfielder Owen Hargreaves stoked the fire by claiming that the United goals were "beautiful pieces of play" while Arsenal's were "a bit more scrappy".

Blackburn will want to make the most of United's distractions, although their record of seven wins and one draw in their last eight games should be enough to concentrate their minds.

Ferguson at least appears willing to put the pressure on his squad to continue their form, warning that growing pressure from the bench could see changes made to his starting eleven.

"We have people fit again, I can now alternate our side at times," Ferguson said, commentating on the list of substitutes against Arsenal that contained five full internationals.

The Scotsman continued saying: "The lads have done a fantastic job to get us into this position and we can change things now when we need to."

Ferguson made five changes to his starting line-up for the midweek 4-0 demolition of Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League as Gerard Pique, Nani, Michael Carrick, Danny Simpson and Darren Fletcher also stepped up.

However, big guns Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Hargreaves are expected to return, with Carrick perhaps retaining his place due to the absence of Paul Scholes (knee) in midfield and Simpson deputising for the ill Wes Brown at right-back.

The only bad news comes from Gary Neville, who suffered a recurrence of the calf injury that has helped keep him out of action since breaking his ankle in March.

Rovers still only have Robbie Savage as a serious injury concern. His knee cartilage injury will keep him out until around Christmas.

Aaron Mokoena is pushing for a place in the squad only two weeks after almost breaking his leg. The pain turned out to be bruising and damage to a plate he'd previous had inserted into his left leg.

Steven Reid and Jason Roberts are also looking for fitness after recovering from injuries, though neither are expected to feature against United.
