Kick-off at The Reebok, with Blackburn getting the action underway.
Blackburn picked up their first away point of the season but could have so easily have had all three against a Bolton side that seemed to have the distraction of a forthcoming European campaign on their mind. In a Lancashire derby of few chances Blackburn had the best, and only a super save from Jussi Jaaskelainen prevented Steven Reid earning Rovers victory with a cracking shot midway through the second half. Rovers had the game's most creative players too with substitute David Bentley making a real impact when replacing Morten Pedersen. On loan from Arsenal for the season, Bentley showed enough to suggest that he will be a more than useful acquisition and twice he went close to setting up goals for fellow substitute Shefki Kuqi. In a drab first half Bolton relied on long throws and set-pieces to try and scramble their way to a chance or two but there was little to trouble Brad Friedel although Ivan Campo did go close with a flashing header from a Stelios corner. Rovers' defenders coped well under the physical threat of Bolton's powerful front line but in the second half the visitors made a much bigger impression following the introduction of Bentley and Kuqi. A couple of defensive errors by Bruno N'Gotty and Jaaskelainen presented half-chances for Blackburn and Kuqi was only a whisker away from connecting to a magnificent cross-field Bentley pass. A point apiece was probably a fair outcome although Blackburn, on this evidence, looked the more likely of the two sides to make an impact on the Premier League this season. Rovers have now stayed unbeaten on their last five Premiership trips to the Reebok Stadium.
