Match Preview
N'Daw out for Blues Birmingham will be without Guirane N'Daw for the visit of Ipswich as Chris Hughton's side aim to take advantage of one of their two games in hand over their promotion rivals. The no-nonsense midfielder, who has recently extended his loan stay from St Etienne until the end of the season, has linked up with Senegal for the forthcoming African Nations Cup. Blues had hoped to keep hold of N'Daw until after the encounter but their efforts were thwarted, although Hughton has plenty of options for replacements in the middle of the park. A deal is yet to be struck with West Brom over a loan extension for striker Chris Wood, with the New Zealand international having returned to The Hawthorns and starring as an unused substitute in their FA Cup win over Cardiff at the weekend. Fit-again defender Liam Ridgewell was forced off with a back spasm shortly after half-time in Saturday's goalless cup tie against Wolves and will be assessed, as will Pablo Ibanez, who missed out with a slight knock. Skipper Stephen Carr (knee) remains at least two weeks away from a return. Alex McCarthy is set to make his Ipswich debut but Jimmy Bullard continues to miss out due to a severe illness. Goalkeeper McCarthy arrived from Reading on a three-month loan deal on Monday and is poised to replace Arran Lee-Barrett at St Andrew's. Town will, however, be without Bullard for a third successive match this year as he struggles with a virus. Manager Paul Jewell told the club's official website: "Jimmy is not very well at all to be honest. The illness has knocked him for six really and he hasn't been able to train properly since New Year's Day. So he's not feeling too clever at the moment and that's no over-exaggeration." Fellow midfielder Lee Bowyer (groin) also misses out against his former club, while defender Damien Delaney is doubtful having suffered a recurrence of his recent foot injury in Saturday's 3-1 FA Cup defeat at Hull. Andy Drury does return having been cup-tied at the weekend. Town are currently waiting for an answer from out-of-favour Leicester centre-back Sean St Ledger over a move to Suffolk and it remains to be seen whether a deal can be completed in time for him to feature against Birmingham.

Match Report
Zigic pours misery on Town Nikola Zigic's 91st-minute winner clinched a dramatic 2-1 victory for Birmingham over Ipswich as Chris Hughton's side left it late to take full advantage of one of their two games in hand. The Serbian's close-range effort got Blues out of jail, with the towering striker finishing well after Curtis Davies had flicked on David Murphy's throw. Zigic had earlier given City a ninth-minute lead with a header straight from Murphy's long throw, with his brace taking his tally to four for the season. The impressive Lee Martin equalised on 18 minutes after finishing a driving run from midfield with a superb strike from 20 yards to register his first goal since the opening day of the season. Birmingham, still unbeaten at home this term, are now up to ninth - two points off fifth - while under-pressure Ipswich boss Paul Jewell has seen his struggling side lose 11 of their last 14 matches. Both sides rang the changes after their FA Cup ties at the weekend, Birmingham recalling seven players and Ipswich five, including a debut for goalkeeper Alex McCarthy following his loan signing from Reading. And there were just nine minutes on the clock when McCarthy was beaten as the hosts took the lead out of nowhere. Murphy's throw was met by Zigic and the 6ft 8in forward flicked a header backwards which kissed the far post before nestling in the net. As Blues went in search of a second, Chris Burke's teasing low cross was turned behind by Carlos Edwards with Jean Beausejour waiting to pounce, with Zigic heading the resulting corner into the side-netting. But Ipswich were soon level with their first meaningful attempt of the game, Martin picking the ball up in midfield and embarking on a strong run before planting the ball left-footed across Boaz Myhill. McCarthy got down comfortably to another flicked Zigic header from a Murphy free-kick midway through the half, while at the other end Myhill palmed away Town skipper Grant Leadbitter's stinging set-piece from the left channel. Myhill was replaced at half-time due to illness, with Colin Doyle taking his place. Jason Scotland saw an effort deflected wide for Town while Jonathan Spector failed to find the well-placed Marlon King 12 yards out. Martin was next to see his strike blocked by Davies before Zigic tamely headed a clear opening at McCarthy with the game hanging in the balance. Birmingham came closest to regaining the lead in the 73rd minute as King thundered a half-volley against the outside of a post from Burke's cross. Ipswich appeals for a penalty were waved away after Caldwell's tackle on Martin before the late drama settled matters.
