Gary Taylor-Fletcher fired Blackpool to an impressive win at high-flying Birmingham City who crashed to their first Championship defeat of the season. Taylor-Fletcher pounced just two minutes into the second half when he converted a Ben Burgess pass from 12 yards - the first goal Birmingham have conceded at St Andrew's this term. It was just the response that Blackpool boss Simon Grayson had been seeking after seeing his side lost 2-0 at Burnley in their previous match. Their margin of victory could have been greater as Taylor-Fletcher was denied a second goal by keeper Maik Taylor in the 71st minute following more good work by Steve Kabba. Birmingham, who had been defending a 100 per cent home record, tried everything to get back into the game. Manager Alex McLeish ended the match with four strikers - James McFadden, Kevin Phillips, Marcus Bent and Cameron Jerome - but it was a day to forget for City. The closest they got to salvaging a point came when Bent saw his 80th-minute drive tipped away by Paul Rachubka. Birmingham did create enough chances to have been in control by half-time if their finishing had been better but were ultimately indebted to Taylor for going into the interval still on level terms. Cameron Jerome fired wide after just six minutes following good work by Sebastian Larsson before Scotland international McFadden saw his effort deflected for a corner. Jerome then failed to convert a McFadden cross from close range on the half-hour before Taylor came to Birmingham's rescue seven minutes later. Birmingham failed to deal with a run into their penalty area from Ben Burgess and, when the loose ball broke to Kabba, he fed a pass into the path of Wales international midfielder David Vaughan. Vaughan just had Taylor to beat from 12 yards only to see his angled drive spectacularly tipped away by the Northern Ireland international's outstretched left hand. But there was nothing Taylor could do when Taylor-Fletcher pounced to seal Blackpool's well-earned win with his first goal of the season.
