It's 3pm on Saturday, May 7th, the match has kicked off.
This drab seaside clash had end of season written all over it as both sides had nothing to play for - and it really showed. There may have been individual players looking to extent contracts but really no-one did themselves justice as the Seasiders went down 2-0 at home to Barnsley. There was hardly a chance on goal worthy of the name until the 26th minute. Then it took a header from Rob Edwards which went flying towards his own net to produce any adrenalin among the crowd. Barnsley looked a useful outfit on the counter attack but their finishing in the first half was dreadful until the 38th minute. Simon Johnson curled a lovely shot beyond the reach of Lee Jones but it clipped the outside of the post before falling to colleague Chris Shuker. Shuker did well to keep the bobbling ball down and he produced a lovely low volley into the opposite corner. Any thoughts that a goal might liven up the game were short lived and Blackpool manager Colin Hendry used three substitutes in the second half to try and spark some life into his side. In the 85th minute any hopes Hendry still had of snatching a point were firmly dispensed with when Jones - one of the better players on the day - completely blotted his copy book when he caught a Barnsley corner but then contrived to drop the ball at the feet of Robbie Williams who made no mistake from eight yards out.
