The ref has blown his whistle and the match has started.
Wycombe got off to an edgy, nervous start against new boys Barnet. The former Conference Champions showed plenty of determination by conceding a number of free kicks in the midfield area. On 14 minutes Danny Senda crossed from the right for Wycombe as Tommy Mooney headed over the bar. Barnet came close to taking the lead on 20 minutes when Giuliano Grazioli lobbed the keeper Frank Talia only to see his effort bounce wide of a post. A minute later Wycombe took the lead when Joe Burnell fed leading goal-scorer Nathan Tyson who slid his shot past the advancing Ross Flitney. On 34 minutes Wycombe should have extended their lead when Mooney fed Sergio Torres who gave Flitney the chance to scramble away a miss hit shot. More chances for the home side followed but they failed to add to their goal tally. In the second half it was a constant wave of home pressure for the opening 10 minutes. Tyson, Mooney and Torres missed chances before Torres fed Tyson who should have buried it. Flitney smothered his poor shot and John Gorman was left on the touchline, shaking his head. As often happens in football, Barnet were encouraged by the lack of a threat in front of their goal, and took chances going forward. Damien Batt and Dwane Lee had good efforts saved by Talia as Wycombe lost shape in midfield. Torres was upended on the edge of the box, and Mooney drove it wide of the target. The lively Argentinean looked the most likely to create something for Wycombe despite being closely marked by the Barnet defenders. On 78 minutes Torres was replaced by Ian Stonebridge moments after Barnet came close to drawing level. Grazioli lobbed Talia and Roger Johnson managed to get back and head the ball off the line as Richard Graham volleyed just over. Some very good pressure by Barnet made Wycombe look shambolic at the back as Talia was called upon to make a brilliant save from Dean Sinclair on 82 minutes. Ben Bowditch was replaced by Lee Roache on 85 minutes and moments later the Barnet striker boomed a shot at Talia. With added time being played out, Wycombe looked very nervous as they edged to a 1-0 victory.
