Byrne out for Barnet Mark Byrne is ruled out of Barnet's home meeting with Gillingham. The on-loan Nottingham Forest midfielder came on as a substitute against Northampton at the weekend after recovering from a knee injury. However, he had to come off again 15 minutes later after injuring his other knee in a collision with Cobblers goalkeeper Chris Dunn. Rossi Jarvis or Clovis Kamdjo will be added to the squad in Byrne's absence. Boss Mark Stimson is likely to name an unchanged starting line-up against his former club following Saturday's thumping 4-1 victory which lifted the Bees off the foot of the table. Defenders Darren Dennehy and Daniel Leach (both foot), winger Glenn Poole (ankle) and striker Danny Kelly (hamstring) are still sidelined. Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler is unlikely to risk defender Simon King. King was on the bench after 18 months out with an ankle injury as the Gills won their first away game of the season at Oxford on Saturday. But Hessenthaler will give him some reserve-team action before he gets any first-team minutes under his belt. Garry Richards (toe), Andy Barcham (ankle) and Curtis Weston (thigh) are also unlikely to feature against the Bees but will figure in a specially arranged reserve game soon to gain match fitness. Mark Bentley, Dean Rance (both metatarsal), Jack Payne (foot) and Mark McCammon (Achilles) all remain on the treatment table and Callum Davies will sit out the second game of a three-match ban.

Match Report

Gills win on road again Gillingham came from behind to beat Barnet 2-1 thanks to goals from Peterborough loanees Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee. The Kent side secured their first victory on the road in 35 games against Oxford on Saturday and repeated the trick against fellow strugglers Barnet. Veteran striker Kevin Gallen gave Mark Stimson's men the lead against his former club but Whelpdale and Lee struck within six second-half minutes. The visitors had the better of the opening exchanges but it was Barnet who went ahead in the 31st minute as Mark Marshall's cross-cum-shot was poorly dealt with and Gallen stabbed home from close range. Gillingham drew level in the 59th minute when front man Adebayo Akinfenwa teed up Whelpdale to lash home past Jake Cole. And the Bees keeper was picking the ball out of the net again just moments later when midfielder Lee burst into space created by the Gills strikers before finishing superbly. Barnet piled on the pressure late on but Andy Hessenthaler's men held on for the three points.
