Match Preview
Allegri wants more of the same AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri was delighted with his team's performance against Fiorentina on Saturday and has called for more of the same in the Champions League at Auxerre. A win in France coupled with a defeat for Ajax at Real Madrid in the other Group G game would see the Italians qualify for the knockout stages and eliminate Auxerre. The Rossoneri are in buoyant mood after a solid display saw them beat Fiorentina 1-0 at the weekend. The result was Milan's fourth consecutive league triumph and lifted them three points clear at the top of Serie A. Allegri hopes they can carry that through to the Champions League. "I'm very happy because for the second league game in a row we have not given away a goal," said Allegri. "Despite the injuries to several players (Alexandre Pato, Filippo Inzaghi), we have found balance with the players we have available. "This is proof that my team always goes out on the pitch determined to win. "We must pick up where we left off against Fiorentina when we take on Auxerre. "The game against Auxerre and our final group game against Ajax are crucial in our hopes of advancing in the Champions League. "Auxerre are also going through a good run of form and we will have to be ready." Milan lie second in the group, five points behind leaders Real Madrid and just one point clear of Ajax. Auxerre are bottom of the pool, two points behind Milan. The French side go into the encounter at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps on the back of a five-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1. Last weekend's 1-1 draw at St Etienne saw Auxerre climb to ninth in the league standings, five points adrift of leaders Lille. Jean Fernandez's side will be eager to pick up where they left off in their 2-1 triumph over Ajax that was their first win in the competition this season. "In one match, anything is possible at Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps," he said. "We showed that against Ajax. "We almost succeeded against Real (1-0 defeat). "So why not Milan? That's our state of mind." Auxerre will have to keep a close eye on in-form striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibrahimovic scored the only goal against Fiorentina to take his goal tally for the season to 11 in all competitions. With attacking duo Pato and Inzaghi out of action through injury, the Sweden international will lead Milan forward alongside Robinho. Auxerre will have to do without several key players. Midfielder Steeven Langil, who scored the winner against Ajax, is out with a knee problem and right-back Cedric Hengbart is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Centre-back Jean-Pascal Mignot serves a one-match ban while Kenyan forward Dennis Oliech returns from suspension.

Match Report
Milan through to last 16 AC Milan secured their qualification from Champions League Group G with a 2-0 victory in a lacklustre encounter in Burgundy. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's wonderful 64th-minute opener came out of the blue and he was later replaced by Ronaldinho, who netted the second late on. That left Milan on eight points and Ajax's 4-0 thumping at home to Real Madrid ensured the Rossoneri would qualify as runners-up to the Spaniards. Auxerre welcomed back Cedric Hengbart from a hamstring problem and Dennis Oliech from suspension on a cold night, while injuries deprived Milan of Alexandre Pato, Filippo Inzaghi, Andrea Pirlo, Massimo Oddo and Luca Antonini. Milan were first to have a sight of goal as Robinho fired over, while keeper Christian Abbiati dealt with Dariusz Dudka's free-kick and Benoit Pedretti's corner at the other end. Abbiati was forced to field a shot for the first time - and did so with ease - as Roy Contout met Dudka's cross with his head. He was tested much more by Benoit Pedretti's free-kick two minutes later, producing a superb save before also gathering another set-piece effort from Valter Birsa as the hosts enjoyed a spell of pressure. Contout then shot over, an effort replicated by Clarence Seedorf in an overdue Milanese attack in the 22nd minute. The Dutchman then set up a chance for Mathieu Flamini, whose shot was blocked. Oliech also saw an effort charged down and Frederic Sammaritano's low long-range effort was held by Abbiati before Gennaro Gattuso shot over for Milan. Half-time arrived with little else in the way of incident, with Massimo Ambrosini booked seconds before the interval for a bad foul on Contout. There was no immediate sign of an improvement after the interval, with Thiago Silva's shot wide for Milan and Robinho's effort - blocked by Adama Coulibaly - the only two noteworthy incidents of the first quarter-hour. Hengbart's injury resurfaced and he was replaced by Kamel Chafni before Delvin Ndinga, teed up by Contout just outside the box, shot narrowly over. Oliech was off target from similar range and Auxerre were made to pay as Milan took a scarcely-deserved lead. It was a goal out of keeping with the game - but one which perfectly summed up Ibrahimovic. Hitherto anonymous in the game, the Sweden striker arrowed a superb effort into the top-right corner from outside the box to break the deadlock. Oliech shot over and defender Stephane Grichting's left-footed volley wide from outside the box betrayed Auxerre's desperation - the French side knew defeat would confirm their elimination from the competition. Julien Quercia, introduced in place of Sammaritano, saw his effort blocked by Gianluca Zambrotta before Pedretti fired over. Veteran defender Alessandro Nesta was booked for time-wasting as Milan ran the clock down and Ronaldinho's precise curler as the game ticked into injury time, having been set up by Robinho, sealed victory.
