Lampard lofts a ball over the top looking for Crouch who was sizing up a volley but it is deflected out for a corner by some last-ditch defending

Young looks up and picks out Crouch on the back post but his header is too close to Manninger who claws it away - that really should have been 2-0 and goodnight Austria

Austria are certainly not looking to give England an easy ride as they dive into tackles and generally make life unpleasant for the visitors

Manninger dives in bravely at the feet of Cole to smother his close-range shot and then Aufhauser blocks Crouch's follow up with the keeper grounded - that was close from England

Richards does well at the back to stab the ball away from Sanel Kuljic who had been played into space inside the penalty area after a swift Austria break

Manninger leaps well to pluck the ball out of the air when Crouch was shaping for a header from eight yards - the sub looked really assured there

According to touchline reports, Owen has a thigh strain and that makes him a serious doubt for the Croatia game on Wednesday

Joe Cole loses the ball and in his eagerness to reclaim it commits a rather crude tackle in the centre circle which gives away a cheap free-kick

There was no hint of what was wrong with the injury-plagued striker who went straight down the tunnel with several members of the medical staff

That's Owen's last touch as he heads straight off to the bench and is replaced by Jermain Defoe - that's a worry for England and McClaren

Manninger produces a good tip over to deny Owen who was on the end of a neat move involving Gerrard and Crouch which led to the striker back-heeling into his path - that was the best move of the match by some distance!

It's a fairly mundane affair now with Austria happy to play on the break and England struggling to break down a well-organised defence

Beckham drills a 25-yard free-kick straight into the wall and Austria clear their lines effectively

The early energy looks to have drained out of this match now after the three-minute wait while Macho was tended to by the medical staff

Macho stays down and is eventually stretchered off to be replaced by Alex Manninger - he looks to have some sort of shoulder injury

Crouch is now involved in a collision with Macho and both go down looking a little dazed - the goalkeeper definitely came off worse there and requires treatment

Macho makes a hash of low bouncing Beckham cross from the right but Crouch can't capitalise with his back to goal and Austria crowd out the big striker

Joe Cole tries his luck from 30 yards with a rising shot which flashes well over the crossbar - England are beginning to get on top of this match now though

Richards gets up early in the box to win a Beckham corner but he can only divert the ball well wide under pressure

Campbell sends Franz Schiemer crashing to the ground in the centre circle in a challenge which would probably have earned him a booking in a competitive outing

Michael Owen is scythed down on the edge of the box but the referee waves play on with the ball at Lampard's feet only for him to lash his shot straight at a defender

Campbell steps up and just about gets an offside decision in his favour in what would have been an early embarrassment for England

However, the under-fire coach will be keeping his fingers crossed that no players pick up injuries tonight ahead of what he hopes will be a vital Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia on Wednesday
