Both managers made four changes to their sides for the clash at The Reebok in what is Gary Megson's first game in charge of Bolton.

Match Report

Another turbulent week at Bolton Wanderers is rounded off with the visit of Aston Villa to the Reebok Stadium.

The Trotters have now filled their managerial vacancy following the recent exit of Sammy Lee, with Gary Megson given the job of trying to steer the Trotters away from the foot of the table.

Lee's fate was sealed by a dreadful run of form at the start of the season and caretaker Archie Knox's sole league game in charge also ended in defeat, as a 2-0 loss at Arsenal dropped Bolton to the foot of the table.

Knox tried to put a positive spin on events after the reverse to the Gunners, rejecting talk of a dressing room split.

He told the Bolton News: "It is nonsense about rifts about the place. You used to see punch-ups in the dressing room a few years ago, but there has never been anything like that here.

"Who wouldn't want the job? Bolton have been a Premier League club for a number of years now.

"They have a lot of experience in their ranks and that will be bolstered when the transfer window opens again. I have no doubt that will be the case."

Villa travel to Lancashire hoping to hit back after a 4-1 home mauling at the hands of Manchester United last time out.

That reverse also saw the sendings-off of Nigel Reo-Coker and Scott Carson, meaning that boss Martin O'Neill will have to makes changes.

Striker John Carew is making good progress as he battles back from a knee injury, but the weekend may come just too soon for the Norwegian star to feature, with O'Neill saying: "He's coming on really fine.

"We're going to get him outside to do a bit of work now, but I don't know whether Sunday will come too early for him."

Last season's corresponding fixture ended 2-2, with sub Luke Moore rescuing a point for Villa nine minutes from time.
