FULL TIME: NEWCASTLE 0 - 0 ARSENAL: A terrible game has finished goalless at St. James's as neither side ever looked like breaking the deadlock with chances at a premium. How messrs Owen and Henry were needed by their teams this afternoon.

90mins

2 minutes added time are to be played.

90mins

A superb ball in from Milner and Taylor comes in at the back post but can't quite reach it to head past Lehmann and it drifts wide.

89mins

And a final throw of the dice for Glenn Roeder as he throws on forgotten man Albert Luque in place of Emre.

88mins

Still both sides are unable to put together any incisive moves in the final third as Ljungberg this time resorts to desperation as he scuffs a shot from 25 yards.

85mins

Now Newcastle attack as Martins and Milner exchange passes and Toure concedes a throw in, which once more comes to nothing.

84mins

An almighty scramble as Fabregas, Gilberto twice and Aliadiere are denied by a combination of Solano's back and head and Harper's body.

81mins

Good defending from Onyewu as despite Aliadiere's pace he manages to beat the Frenchman to the ball and escape the corner to good effect.

78mins

FInally a chance for somebody as Gilberto creeps in behind everyone to meet Fabregas' free-kick but Steven Carr makes a superb block to deny the Brazilian.

77mins

And Steven Taylor is also handed the same punishment for his part in sparking the trouble.

77mins

A yellow card is handed to William Gallas for his part in the fracas.

76mins

As usual Jens Lehmann is at the centre of a scuffle as Steven Taylor piles into him and then Eboue, Martins, Gallas and the rest all get involved and strangely Lehmann manages to keep himself out of the controversy.

74mins

Newcastle on the break look to be in a dangerous position as the impressive Milner but even he seems to be struggling now as Clichy takes it off him with ease.

71mins

Another change for Arsenal as Jeremie Aliadiere replaces the dreadful Adebayor up front, maybe he can change things.

70mins

This game - much like these two teams seasons - seems to be petering out with neither side really shwing the necessary ambition required to win this one.

67mins

The game has gone flat once again, which is shown by the atmosphere or lack of it being created by the fans who are getting little to cheer or appreciate from either side.

64mins

Newcastle are keeping Arsenal's back four under pressure but as seems to be the case all day today they fail to get a decent final ball into the box.

62mins

Adebayor is really struggling today, his touch looks off as he again fails to play a simple one-two with Fabregas.

61mins

Julio Baptista has been summoned by Arsene Wenger and he will come on in place of Hleb.

59mins

Now with Emre back in midfield and N'Zogbia up front Newcastle are looking to run in behind and use the pace at their disposal.

57mins

Good play from Hleb - who has been good today - as he finds Eboue who strikes ti wide from the edge of the box but that was more incisive from the Gunners.

56mins

It looks as though Emre is now playing up front with Martins for Newcastle and N'Zogbia has moved into central midfield.

54mins

And after more good play, Gael Clichy skies the ball ou tof play for a throw in when under no pressure on his favoured left foot as he looked to cross.

53mins

Arsenal are coming forward now but again they waste the ball in the final third and that is becoming a common theme of their play today.

51mins

Charles N'Zogbia is ready to come on and he will replace Kieron Dyer who looks to be suffering, Glenn Roeder will be hoping it is not another injury.

49mins

Newcastle have started this second half well and Arsenal will need to get themselves going otherwise Newcastle could take the game away from them.

46mins

Milner fizzes the ball across the box and it curls onto the cross bar and Lehmann was well beaten.

45mins

And the second half is underway with neither side making any changes at half time and surely this game can only get better.

45mins

HALF TIME: NEWCASTLE 0 - 0 ARSENAL: Both sides have been guilty of wasting good positions in the final third but Newcastle have probably shaded the first period with Damien Duff going close on two occasions near the break.

45mins

2 minutes of added time have been indicated.

43mins

Terrible defending from Arsenal under pressure as six of them fail to clear and it eventually for Duff at an awkward height and he can't get it on target.

41mins

Nicky Butt bursts forward from midfield and reaches the byline where he cuts it back for Duff whose close range shot is deflected behind by Gallas.

39mins

The home fans are not happy with some of referee Webb's decisions as Ljungberg appears to handle on the half way line and Butt's well timed tackle is punished.

35mins

Martins does brilliantly to shrug aside Toure then beats Eboue with quick feet then finds Milner who blazes over with his left foot.

34mins

Fabulous trickery from Milner as he flicks it backwards over Clichy's head and the smashes it across goal and is awarded a free kick as Clichy handles.

32mins

Eboue is back on the field now and looks to be moving a bit better, although still not particularly freely.

31mins

And from the corner Adebayor rises but heads well wide from six yards out when he really should have done better.

30mins

And he has stayed down after colliding with the advertising hoardings and looks to have a problem with his knee.

30mins

Eboue flying down the line gets to the byline and hs cross is deflected and Harper is forced to tip it over the bar.

29mins

Ljungberg is booked for dissent as he complains that he was blocked off by Solano as he looked to latch on to Adebayor's clever back heel.

28mins

Fabregas drives in a free kick from the halfway line that beats all the defenders and Adebayor is inches away from making it one-nil but Harper is able to claim.

26mins

A problem for Newcastle as Shay Given is going off with what looks like a recurrence of the groin injury that has haunted him all season, and Steve Harper replaces him between the posts.

24mins

It is starting to get going now as Fabregas looks for Adebayor over the top but the Togolese striekr fails to take it down and Given claims.

23mins

Here they come again as Duff evades Eboue and shoots low towards the far post where Dyer is coming in but it is to far ahead of him and wide of the goal.

22mins

MIlner with a great ball in from the right wing but it is just too high for Dyer at the near post and Gallas beats Martins to it.

21mins

But here come Arsenal with Diaby and Fabregas playing a clever one-two and Diaby looks for Ljungberg in behind but his pass is too firm and rolls out of play.

20mins

Newcastle have been enjoying a good spell for the last five minutes without threatening again but it looks promising for the hosts.

16mins

Now Onyewu at the other end has a chance and forces Lehmann into a superb save in the bottom corner after Emre's scuffed and deflected free-kick finds the American in the penalty area.

15mins

Onyewu nearly hands Arsenal a great chance with a poor backpass that nearly allows Adebayor the chance to beat Given to the ball but the Irish keeper just gets there in time.

14mins

Toure has a pop from the free-kick which is deflected behind of Emre in the wall for a corner, which the Gunners again waste.

12mins

Both sides are just struggling with their final ball at the moment but Arsenal do force a corner, from which they eventually force a free kick in a good position.

9mins

Jens Lehmann gets away with a rash decision as Martins flicks it on for Dyer who beats Toure and the German keeper to the ball only to be forced wide and fail to keep the ball in.

8mins

Now the game is starting to get going as Newcastle attack down the right only for Arsenal to launch a counter attack down the left to win a throw near the corner flag.

5mins

The first shot of the game is by Hleb, whose low left footed drive from the edge of the box forces a pretty comfortable save from Shay Given

4mins

A very slow start to the game with neither side showing much impetus in the opening exchanges which is silencing the fanatical home support.

2mins

Arsenal have started in their usual style, keeping the ball well away from Newcastle and an interesting point early on is that Diaby appears to be playing alongside Adebayor in attack.

0mins

Referee Howard Webb gets the game underway at St. James' Park and a typically loud home crowd are creating a good atmosphere at the start of this game.

0mins

Meanwhile the Gunners, who suffered that shock home defeat at the hands of West Ham United two days ago, make just the one change as Tomas Rosicky is replaced by Abou Diaby in midfield.

0mins

Match Report

Honours even as Newcastle have now gone three successive matches without a goal at St James' Park in what was the second draw between these clubs this season.

Neither side appeared to have the drive or determination to break the deadlock in a season that will end trophy-less for both clubs.

Newcastle's slim hopes of a UEFA place are as good as over - the best they can hope for being a shot at the much maligned Intertoto Cup for a second successive season.

For Arsenal, it looks like being a season that can't come to an end soon enough.

The best efforts saw James Milner rattle the Arsenal bar while Gilberto had two shots cleared off the line by Nobby Solano.

Alexander Hleb created the first chance with a left-footed drive that brought a good low save from Shay Given.

At the other end, Solano broke on the right and his telling cross was just deflected wide of the onrushing Kieron Dyer.

Jens Lehmann then came to the Arsenal rescue when an Emre free-kick broke to Steven Taylor and the big defender looked on course for goals in successive games, only to see the German defender claw out his low shot.

Newcastle suffered a setback after 26 minutes when Given limped off with what appeared a recurrence of his groin injury, with Steve Harper taking over in goal.

Emmanuel Adebayor should have done better than to head over when meeting a Cesc Fabregas corner on the half hour.

Newcastle finished more strongly and Damien Duff had two good chances. First he saw Gael Clichy force a shot wide and then pulled an effort wide himself when in a great position.

The woodwork came to the rescue for Arsenal just 30 seconds into the second half when Milner made space on the right and his deep cross sailed over Lehmann and crashed to safety off the bar.

Dyer limped out of action after 52 minutes to be replaced by Charles N'Zogbia, but the young Frenchman struggled to make any impression on the game.

With Obafemi Martins ineffective up front, Newcastle were left with few options having already lost Dyer.

But it was not much better at the other end where Adebayor and Abou Diaby made little impression against the Newcastle rearguard.

The best chances for the Gunners came six minutes from time when Stephen Carr was caught ball-watching and twice Solano had to be at his brave best, blocking Gilberto shots on the goal-line and winning praise from Harper for his heroics.

A draw was by far the fairest result for both teams, who overall lacked any clinical finishing.
