Match Preview

Final bow for Neilson Third Division leaders Annan include captain Kevin Neilson in their squad for the last time when Stranraer visit. The defender, who has spent the last three-and-a-half years at the club, is heading to Australia for six months. Manager Harry Cairney will hand late fitness tests to Chris Jardine, David Cox, Graeme Bell and Sean O'Connor but Peter Watson is available after a ban and former Stranraer skipper Danny Mitchell is in line to make his home debut after signing on as an amateur. Cairney is looking for an improvement following his side's 1-0 defeat to East Stirling at the weekend. He said: "Stranraer are dangerous opponents but I am looking for a big improvement on Saturday's game, especially up front where we didn`t create enough." Playmaker Chris Aitken will miss out for Stranraer due to a broken foot, but Grant Gallagher returns after a two-game ban. The Stair Park men claimed a 4-2 win against Athletic earlier in the season and manager Keith Knox knows what his men will have to do to repeat their success. He said: "With the amount of rain there has been in the south-west recently I am expecting this game to be a real rolled-up sleeves, slog-in-the-mud type affair. "The pitch will be extremely heavy and Annan play to their strengths as a big physical side and our boys will really have to get stuck in to defeat them again."

Match Report

Stranraer too much for Annan again Stranraer completed the double over Division Three leaders Annan with an impressive 3-0 victory at Galabank. The win moves the Stair Park men up to third in the table, while the Galabankies, who suffered their second straight league defeat, remain top. Stuart McColm gave Stranraer the lead with a powerful 25-yard strike in the 18th minute. Just after the half hour, Stranraer found the net for a second time through Martin Grehan's neat close-range finish. McColm then saw his stinging shot saved by Alex Mitchell as the away side continued to dominate. They kept up the pressure in the second half, with Craig Malcolm and Stephen Stirling both testing Mitchell. And it was no surprise when they added a third, Stephen Stirling blasting the ball into the roof of the net from 25 yards with 11 minutes left.
