Match Preview

Harty blow for Annan Third Division leaders Annan will again be without six-goal striker Ian Harty as they take on Peterhead at Galabank looking for their first Third Division win in three games. Manager Harry Cairney has no new injury or suspension worries but he is wary of coming up against an improving Blue Toon side. Cairney said: "Their new manager Jim McInally has tightened things up at the back already in the few games he has been in charge for. "Being tighter at the back provides a platform for their front men to win games and with the quality they have up front they will start doing that soon. We have to ensure it is not against us." "It would be great to get three points and consolidate top spot." Peterhead boss Jim McInally is hoping that the experienced duo of Garry Wood and Martin Bavidge are available. The duo missed out in the goalless draw with Clyde at the weekend due to injury and McNally will be hoping they can pull through as Aaron Conway, Alan Rattray, Barry Sellars and Graeme Sharp all continue to be absent due to knocks. Despite an 18-point gap between the sides and a 500-mile round trip McInally is telling his men to enjoy the game. "I am sure the players would rather be playing than doing running at training and we will go there on the back of two clean sheets earned in displays that were full of commitment," said McInally. "Annan have a number of good footballers and also possess a physical challenge but we are going there looking to win."

Match Report

Annan ease past Peterhead Annan maintained their lead at the top of the Scottish Third Division with a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to lowly Peterhead. Two early goals in as many minutes from Aaron Muirhead and Jack Steele, the first of which came from the penalty spot, means Annan remain three points clear of second-placed Alloa, who triumphed 1-0 away to Clyde. The hosts scored after 10 minutes when Callum MacDonald fouled Peter Watson in the penalty area following David Cox`s corner, Muirhead stroked home the resulting spot-kick into the bottom corner. And it was quickly 2-0 as Steele latched on to John MacBeth`s right-wing cross to fire home from close range. Graeme Bell hit a post from 20 yards later in the first half as Annan went on to extend their unbeaten home record this season and leave Peterhead still with just one victory to their name.
