Match Preview

Aitken returns for Annan In-form Annan have player/assistant manager Andy Aitken available after suspension as they look to consolidate their play-off place by defeating Montrose. Neil MacFarlane remains out with a broken bone in his foot with full-back John MacBeth coming into contention for a starting place if he proves his fitness after a groin injury. Galabank boss Harry Cairney is wary of his opponents saying: "Montrose have gone away from home this season and won at Stranraer and won at Albion Rovers in the league. They have also beaten Arbroath at Gayfield in the Scottish Cup so you have to respect that. "We are on a good run of three wins in a row but there are six or seven teams going for promotion so you cannot stop." Montrose player/manager Steven Tweed has included himself in the Gable Endies playing squad for the trip. Tweed has missed the last three weeks with a gashed shin but is back while defender Fraser Milligan misses out with a back injury. The midfield pair of Nicky Smith and Hugh Davidson are also absent. Smith has a hamstring problem and Davidson has bruised ribs with Tweed looking for his men to put on another fine display at Galabank. Tweed said: "We were down there for a midweek game in November and played some of the best football we have played all season. We ended up drawing in a game we should have won, so I am hoping for the same kind of performance but with the right result this time."

Match Report

Harty at the double in win Two goals from top scorer Ian Harty saw Annan secure an unlikely three points in a 2-1 win at home to Montrose. Montrose took the lead after 21 minutes when Paul Tosh rose to meet a Dougie Cameron free-kick inside the six-yard box and his header found the bottom corner. Annan equalised in the 47th minute when, against the run of play, Harty found the top corner with a rasping drive from the right-hand side of the box. Montrose upped the pressure in the second half, creating numberous chances and seeing the lion's share of the ball. Then, after 50 minutes, the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Alan Cambell saw red for a deliberate handball inside the box. Harty stepped up to coolly slot home his 13th goal of the season. Montrose had chances to equalise late on, but Annan dug in and made sure of the win.
