Match Preview

Selection poser for Holdsworth Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth must decide whether any of the quintet who came in for the midweek Johnstone`s Paint Trophy defeat to Oxford have done enough to retain a starting berth against Macclesfield. Goalkeeper Jamie Young, defender Aaron Brown as well as midfielders Anthony Pulis, Peter Vincenti and Bruno Andrade all started the 2-1 home reverse as Shots failed to match their Carling Cup exploits. Ross Worner, Luke Guttridge, Jermaine McGlashan and Michael Rankine dropped to the bench, while centre-back Aaron Morris failed to overcome the knock which forced him to hobble off in the second half of last Saturday`s 3-2 defeat at Accrington. Morris will again be assessed while the remaning quartet, of which Rankine, McGlashan and Guttridge stepped off the bench, will hope to regain their starting spots. But nothing is assured as Holdsworth looks to end a run of three successive defeats in all competitions which has made the club`s eight-match unbeaten run a distant memory. Macclesfield could be without a host of players for the trip as they look to put an end to their poor away form. Gary Simpson's side have lost their last five consecutive games away from Moss Rose and have not scored in their previous four matches on the road. They will definitely be without Elliott Hewitt and Arnaud Mendy who are both on international duty. Hewitt has been called up to the Wales Under-21 squad and Mendy is line to represent Guinea Bissau. George Donnelly (ribs) was left out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy loss to Crewe as a precaution while Shaun Brisley (groin) and Matt Hamshaw (ankle) came off injured in that match. All three are doubtful. Striker Waide Fairhurst is also struggling with an ankle problem he sustained in training. Defender Paul Morgan (broken arm), goalkeeper Jack Cudworth (ankle) and midfielder Colin Daniel (ankle ligaments) are all still out of contention.

Match Report

Macc come back to shoot down Shots Ross Draper made one and scored another as Macclesfield completed a remarkable second-half comeback to down Aldershot 2-1. The visitors had goalkeeper Jose Veiga to thank for keeping out Luke Guttridge and Michael Rankine, before Danny Hylton struck for Aldershot before half-time. But following a wretched first-half display, Draper inspired Macclesfield to just their second away league win of the season, first setting up George Donnelly, before volleying home the winner 17 minutes from time. The result continues Macclesfield's unbeaten record against the Shots in League Two, and inflicted Dean Holdsworth side's fourth defeat on the spin. After Hylton was denied a certain penalty, his 25-yard thunderbolt looked like setting Aldershot on their way to a much-needed three points. However, the second period saw the rejuvenated Silkmen level within eight minutes, as Donnelly punished Anthony Straker's wayward pass. The Cape Verdean goalkeeper again came to the away side's rescue, keeping out Alex Rodman's free-kick and Peter Vincenti's header, as Aldershot's dominance continued. But Draper had the last word, volleying home after some uncertain defending from the hosts.
