Match Preview

Spencer stays on bench Damian Spencer will be on the bench again when Aldershot host struggling Barnet. The striker came off the bench to score the winner against Stockport at the weekend, but is short of match fitness after a lengthy absence with a knee injury and is not ready to start. Winger Alex Rodman made his comeback from a calf injury as a second-half substitute on Saturday and after creating Spencer's goal is expected to start. Winger Jermaine McGlashan is dealing with an ongoing shin splints problem but is available, while youth-team graduate Adam Mekki will be included in the squad again. Forward Jack Randall broke his leg while on loan at Didcot Town recently and is a long-term absentee. Barnet manager Paul Fairclough could hand a debut to on-loan Oxford striker Jack Midson. Midson, whose contract at Oxford expires in May, has joined the Bees on loan until the end of the season. He was in the Oxford side that beat York in the 2010 Conference play-off final to seal promotion back to League Two and now boosts Fairclough's struggling side. Fairclough has no new injury or suspension concerns and is confident his men can bounce back from Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Morecambe. "The squad have the courage to win at Aldershot," said Fairclough. "I'm not questioning the commitment or the passion on Saturday, but in order to retain our Football League status our concentration has to improve."

Match Report

Barnet low after Hy strike Danny Hylton fired Aldershot to a 1-0 win over struggling Barnet. The 22-year-old's 60th-minute finish left the relegation-threatened Bees three points from safety having played four games more than Burton above them. Anthony Charles almost opened the scoring with a looping header, but the Shots defender then nearly turned villain when he sold Jamie Young short and the keeper's clearance hit Mark Marshall and skimmed agonisingly wide. Young pulled off a spectacular reaction save from Mark Byrne's effort before Hylton and Peter Vincenti spurned close-range chances to give Dean Holdsworth's men the lead. Barnet's back line sank deeper after half-time and they were finally pierced when Vincenti slipped through Hylton to calmly stroke home. Matty Parsons' late dismissal for two yellow cards deepened the gloom for Barnet.
