Match Preview

Basement battle at Coatbridge Bottom club Albion will be without suspended midfielder Scott Chaplain as they look to leapfrog over fellow strugglers East Fife at the foot of the Second Division table. Player/coach Danny Ferry, captain Ciaran Donnelly and midfielder Steven Canning have also been ruled out through injury, however manager Paul Martin is hopeful that Joseph Acquah will be fit enough to take his place on the substitutes` bench. Martin said, "We believe we should have more points than we have and are frustrated at not playing recently after slipping to the bottom when our game at Dumbarton was called off. "We now have the opportunity to show that we should not be there by beating East Fife and we aim to take it." East Fife are hopeful that fit-again defender Steven Campbell and striker Paul McQuade can feature at Coatbridge. Striker Scott Dalziel misses out with a pelvic injury as the division`s bottom two go head to head. Fifers boss John Robertson has warned his players they will have to battle if they are to stay off bottom spot come Saturday evening. "We got off there when we beat Forfar a couple of weeks ago and Albion Rovers' game at Dumbarton was postponed," he said. "It is not a nice place to be and I am sure they will see this as a great opportunity to make their stay there a short one at our expense. "We are off the bottom and want to keep it that way but we will have to battle to take anything home from this game."

Match Report

Johnstone at the double for Fifers Craig Johnstone's double saw East Fife to a comfortable 3-0 win which keeps Albion rooted to the bottom of Scottish Second Division. The hosts almost went ahead in the 29th minute but Robert Love's drilled effort from the edge of the area was tipped wide by the Fifers' goalkeeper Mark Ridgers. Rovers were made to pay for that miss eight minutes later when Robert Linn found Johnstone from the right channel and the midfielder calmly converted from 12 yards. Johnstone notched his second in the 51st minute when his curled free-kick from the right wing evaded everyone, including Albion goalkeeper Derek Gaston. Matthew Park found Linn eight minutes from time and the midfielder drilled his shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner to put the game to bed.
