Match Preview

Rovers squad hit with flu Albion Rovers boss Paul Martin will have to wait before finalising his his starting line-up for the visit of Dumbarton. A number of Martin's first-choice players are at home in bed after a flu bug hit the Coatbridge side. Defender Barry Russell is definitely out with a hamstring problem but there was some good news for Martin after Chris Boyle and Steven Canning came through training on Thursday night after recent knocks. Martin said: "Some of the players missed training they are still struggling. I do not want to name who they are but they are all big players for us. "Whatever side I send out on the park should have a number of former Dumbarton players in it who will be looking to gain the bragging rights over their former pals." Dumbarton goalkeeper Jamie Ewings is unavailable for the trip so Stephen Grindlay takes the gloves. The Sons are hopeful midfielder Kevin Nicoll will return after a groin problem but Martin McNiff is a major doubt due to a foot injury. Boss Alan Adamson said: "Albion Rovers have turned their season around since we defeated them a couple of months ago. "They will be out to gain revenge for that and with a number of former Dumbarton players in their ranks we know we will be facing a highly-motivated side."

Match Report

Gemmell at the double John Gemmell scored twice to help Albion leapfrog Dumbarton with a 3-1 win at Cliftonhill Stadium. Gemmell was on the scoresheet after just five minutes when he let fly from 20 yards to send a stunning effort into the top left-hand corner after the visitors had failed to clear Anthony Stevenson's corner. Gemmell then recorded his fifth goal in seven games to double his side's lead when he converted Steven Lawless' cross from close-range after 25 minutes. Bryan Prunty's eighth goal of the season brought Dumbarton back into the game eight minutes before half-time, bundling home from six yards to give the Sons hope. Any chance of a comeback was extinguished on the hour mark when Robert Love re-established Albion's two-goal advantage with a tidy right-footed finish from 12 yards out.
