Match Preview

Franks a lot better Fraser Franks, Brett Johnson and Ricky Wellard are all available for AFC Wimbledon's home game against Cheltenham. Johnson is fit after missing the last two matches with a hamstring injury and fellow defender Franks is in contention for the first time this season having come through two reserve games following a knee operation in March. Midfielder Wellard missed Tuesday's 3-0 defeat by Northampton through suspension after he was sent off at Aldershot last weekend. James Mulley was on the bench in midweek after recovering from a back problem so summer signing Mat Mitchel-King is the only injury absentee. The former Crewe defender, who missed the start of the season with glandular fever, is currently sidelined with an ankle problem. Cheltenham are injury and suspension-free as they prepare to make the trip. Boss Mark Yates has led his side on a run of just one defeat in five outings, propelling the Robins to fifth place in League Two. England Under-21 goalkeeper Jack Butland is expected to keep his place in the team after impressing in his two starts so far since joining on loan from Birmingham. Forward Kaid Mohamed returns to his former club with Cheltenham, but he is not planning on showing his old team-mates any leniency. Mohamed bagged five goals for Wimbledon as he helped them into the Football League last season but rejected the offer of a new contract to move to Whaddon Road. "I don't have a bad word to say about Wimbledon. Winning promotion with them was the highlight of my career," he told the Hounslow Chronicle. "I always look out for their results but I'm a Cheltenham player now and I'm going back there to do a job for my new club."

Match Report

Dons give Robins what four Jack Midson showed Cheltenham what they are missing following their failed attempt to land his services over the summer as he helped AFC Wimbledon to a thumping 4-1 victory. Midson, who swapped Oxford for the Dons in June despite interest from Town, bagged the third goal of a routine afternoon for the home side after 66 minutes Ricky Wellard`s header and an own goal from Steve Elliott had put Wimbledon two up while Rashid Yussuff added a fourth, Darryl Duffy pulling one back for Cheltenham. Terry Brown`s side opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Sammy Hatton's cross from the right was headed in by Wellard. Cheltenham wasted a glaring opportunity to equalise after 35 minutes when Josh Low set up Jimmy Spencer in space in the penalty area, but the young striker made a mess of his shot. Things worsened for Cheltenham five minutes before half-time when Lee Minshull's cross was turned into his own net by a lunging Elliott. Midson put the result beyond doubt with the third, finishing well after good play from substitute Yussuff, who struck the fourth in the 85th minute. Duffy headed in a consolation for Cheltenham from Danny Andrew's cross in the final minute.
