Howe buoyed by Smith stay Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been boosted by the loan extension of right-back Adam Smith ahead of their clash with Plymouth. Smith's previous loan deal expired on Tuesday, but after talks with his parent club Tottenham, Howe successfully extended the youngsters stay at Dean Court until the end of the season. He is expected to continue in the Cherries defence against Peter Reid's side. Howe has no new injury or suspension problems as his side look to take advantage of rivals teams playing in the FA Cup and move into the automatic promotion places. Goalkeeper Jon Stewart, who initially thought he had fractured a finger, is set to continue on the bench after scans suggested there was no damage, while defender Shaun Cooper has fully recovered from a calf problem. Striker Michael Symes is suffering with back and thigh injuries, but is likely to be among the substitutes once again while defender Ryan Garry is still two weeks away from a return to action. Plymouth manager Peter Reid could recall defender Bondz N'Gala. N'Gala could return after he recovered from flu in time to be named on the bench in the 3-2 win against Bristol Rovers and came on to play a vital part in Argyle's winning goal. Striker Joe Mason is likely to keep his place after impressing and scoring at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday. Defender Kari Arnason will not be suspended for the trip to Dean Court despite picking up his fifth booking of the season against Rovers because the cut-off point for players to be banned after receiving five cautions was on December 31. Bradley Wright-Phillips has reportedly attracted interest from Barclays Premier League side Blackpool but the striker is expected to lead the line for the Pilgrims.

Cherries up to second Bournemouth moved into the League One automatic promotion places with a 3-0 victory over Plymouth in what could be Eddie Howe's last game in charge. Howe has reportedly been offered the Crystal Palace job and must now decide whether to join the Championship strugglers or stay with the high flying south coast club. His players did all they could to convince him to stay with a virtuoso display to brush aside struggling Plymouth. They took just four minutes to go ahead as Danny Hollands beat the Plymouth offside trap to fire in from 12 yards. Bournemouth were in complete control of the opening exchanges and were only denied a quickfire second by Plymouth keeper David Button. The Tottenham loanee showed good reactions to keep out Anton Robinson's volley, before diving full stretch to his left to keep out Danny Ings' right-foot effort from 10 yards. With 37 minutes gone, Button was called into action again to keep out Danny Ings' dipping volley from distance. But from the resulting corner Button was finally beaten for a second time as Liam Feeney volleyed in after Plymouth failed to clear. Peter Reid's side improved after the break and Yannick Bolasie's 20-yard snapshot forced Bournemouth keeper Shwan Jalal to tip over the crossbar. But Bournemouth extended their lead in the 55th minutes when Robinson was upended in the box and Marc Pugh cheekily chipped in the resulting penalty. Pugh and substitutes Lee Bradbury and Michael Symes then all hit the post but three was enough for Bournemouth who moved up to second.
