Match Preview

Cherries in good shape Bournemouth have no new injury worries ahead of their game with Notts County. Reserve goalkeeper Dan Thomas will return to the squad after his thigh injury prevented the Cherries from having a keeper on the bench during last weekend's 3-0 win at Tranmere. Josh McQuoid will continue up-front for Eddie Howe's men after he revelled in filling the boots of now-departed hitman Brett Pitman at Prenton Park, scoring one and laying on another. Fellow forward Steve Fletcher remains sidelined with a heel problem. Of the long term absentees, Mark Molesley has returned to light training after a year out of the game with a foot injury, although he remains a good distance from match action. Steve Lovell is targeting an October return following his summer ankle surgery. Notts County boss Craig Short faces a selection dilemma ahead of the trip. The Magpies recorded their first league win of the season against Dagenham last weekend and Short made six changes to that side against Watford in the Carling Cup. Defenders Liam Chilvers, Stephen Hunt and Krystian Pearce and forwards Kevin Smith, Jake Jervis and Luke Hubbins were all selected as Notts won at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night. Short must now decide which of those players remain in the team with Mike Edwards, Graeme Lee, Jon Harley, John Spicer, Craig Westcarr and Derby target Ben Burgess all vying for recalls. Lee Hughes remains out but should be back in contention next week while fellow forward Luke Rodgers (ankle) and goalkeeper Rob Burch (toe) are ahead of schedule in their recoveries but also remain sidelined.

Match Report

County hit back Two late Notts County goals ended Bournemouth's hopes of a third win on the spin as the Magpies claimed a dramatic 3-3 draw. With the game seemingly won by three first-half Cherries goals, Craig Westcarr and sub Kevin Smith struck in stoppage time to leave Bournemouth fans speechless. A brace from Josh McQuoid put the home side into an early lead. He flicked in the opener after three minutes after strike partner Michael Symes had headed on Shaun Cooper's long ball. The Northern Irishman doubled their advantage in the 25th minute, racing on to another route-one ball, this time from keeper Shwan Jalal, and lobbing over the advancing Stuart Nelson. It looked like game over at Dean Court when, in the 28th minute, Anton Robinson began and finished a Cherries counter-attack. But the Magpies, who were promoted as champions along with the Cherries from League Two last term, came back two minutes later through Ben Burgess, whose clever shot went in off the post. The second half was light on goalmouth action until the game entered injury time. Craig Westcarr thumped the ball home in the first minute time added on, before Smith found space in the box and slid the ball beyond Jalal.
