Wycombe Wanderers are on the promotion trail after goals from Scott McGleish and Leon Knight proved to be enough to overcome confidence-shot Accrington Stanley at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.
The Chairboys are firmly back in the play-off picture, despite 18-goal striker Scott McGleish missing a first-half penalty.
The 33-year-old opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he latched onto a throughball from lively Argentinian midfielder Sergio Torres before rifling a left-footed shot home.
But he was thwarted by Stanley keeper Ian Dunbavin 11 minutes before the break after Torres had been brought down on the right-hand edge of box by Mark King.
Unfortunately for the hosts, who have not won since mid-December, the miss didn't really matter. They failed to have a shot on target until the 72nd minute when Aswad Thomas tamely struck from distance.
And bad turned well and truly to worse when substitute Knight, on for ankle injury victim McGleish, latched on to a Dunbavin howler in the 74th minute.
The former Shrewsbury keeper smashed a clearance against his centre-back Graham Branch to leave Knight with the easiest of tap-ins.
While the visitors still haven't lost in 2008, and have set their eyes firmly on automatic promotion, the hosts are dropping like a stone.
They still have some breathing space from the relegation zone, but that will change if they continue their defensive woes.
They have conceded 18 goals in their last six games, including their recent horror show at Peterborough when they let in eight.
