Match Report
Goals either side of half-time from Dudley Campbell and Stephen Dobbie kept Blackpool's late play-off charge on course following a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers. Injuries had largely put paid to the play-off challenge of Sean O'Driscoll's side and the Doncaster boss could only manage six substitutes and gave a start to Paul Heffernan only hours after he was recalled from a loan spell at Bristol Rovers. And things didn't start too promisingly for Heffernan when he was booked for diving in the sixth minute after going down theatrically under a challenge from Alex Baptiste. Doncaster made light of their injury troubles in the opening exchanges and could have gone ahead through a man familiar to the home fans at Bloomfield Road, Arsenal loan ace Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Thomas saw his header cleared off the line by another loanee, Everton's Seamus Coleman, after another incisive corner by the impressive John Oster. Blackpool were struggling to break a Rovers offside trap but finally found their way through on 26 minutes when a deep cross from Hameur Bouazza was volleyed towards his own goal by defender Gareth Roberts. The ball then hit the post but Campbell reacted quickest to bundle home from point-blank range. Doncaster were millimetres away from an equaliser a minute after half-time when Heffernan turned James Hayter's cross past goalkeeper Matt Gilks but, with the ball rolling across the line, Stephen Crainey was on hand to clear the danger. Blackpool sealed what could prove to be a crucial three points on 67 minutes with substitute Dobbie making an instant impact after replacing Bouazza. David Vaughan intercepted the ball in midfield and drove forward before slotting in a good pass which Dobbie fired home with an inch-perfect curling shot which left Neil Sullivan with no chance.
